It's a good job the public don't know their fancy "foreign" lager is made in the UK.

Doesn't seem sensible to import stuff from halfway across the world when there's stuff closer to us. But I guess we have no choice now.

What I worry about is with regards to quality of foods/meats and the prolific use of GM foods and hormone injected meats from other regions.

Have a look at your recent purchases, practically all manufactured goods bought in this country come from China

Iphones, cars, white goods, head phones, PS5 etc etc everything made in China

Banana's, advocado, dates, melons etc etc from all over the world already

Ha yeah, true.

I do think it's a bit of an issue, it's never as clear as you'd expect it to be.

We try to by from farms when we can but that's not always possible.

Only if you buy them. I don't buy that much tech (basically when it either stops working or is too old to be supported). Besides those aren't things that will be injected full of hormones or have lower standards of food hygiene or animal welfare. Electronic products aren't the issue. Food sources are, as is the carbon footprint issues.

Plenty of opportunities for seasonal fruit or locally or EU sourced products. Easier if you live in the countryside I guess thanks to being in market towns and so on.

Ah CPTPP... what a joy that was dealing with in my past life doing import/export compliance for a large multi national business.

I did have a long winded reply on the complexities of origin rules, especially within trade agreements but having nearly fell asleep trawling through the CPTPP rules on origin and regional value calculations I just can't be bothered.

Can't wait for the first time someone in the UK tries dealing with VN and wonders why their origin statements to qualify for CPTPP don't work.

Can’t believe parts of the country are happy with a 0.08% pay rise after quitting a better paid job :D

Are you happy it's better than nothing?

That "high paid job" as you say is gone, the deal is done it's a thing of the past, this is progress, surely better than whinging about something that cannot be changed?

something is better than nothing .. maybe (I don't know enough about the five print of the deal TBH). however my fear is that ultimately it will make it harder to return to the EU once enough people finally accept that we are better being part of the world's biggest trading block, having a seat at the table and being involved in the rules it creates , rather than being outside it and being a slave to their rules anyway picking up their scraps and NOT having a say in the shaping of it. and then there is the environmental cost of increasing trade on the other side of the world at the expense of with our neighbours.

so better than nothing...... maybe but also maybe not imo

Progress is moving forward to being in a better position. Not going backwards then moving forward and call it progress to end up in a worse place.

It's a paracetamol for an amputation. That hardly qualifies as "better than nothing".
