Britain secures agreement to join Indo-Pacific trade bloc

Well that would be a turn up.

"We left the EU so we could get a trade deal with China". Unban Tiktok!

Maybe we could leave NATO to join the BRICS?

If this comes to fruition, I insist on an octopus being added to our flag.
sry that logo is already taken, though kind of fits for a Tory led government:

or if you mean something less sinister then it looks like this one's already taken too:

Yeah I'm sure that is exactly what people on lower incomes will do. The same people who can't afford to buy the "finest" range at supermarkets and will now buy items made with the cheapests imported meat products because they are affordable, those same people who voted for Brexit.

Has anyone seen Lord and Lady Bamford shopping for cheap meat at Lidl in Chipping Norton? A friend saw Carole Bamford in Harrods the other week, probably getting something for Boris' dinner whilst he's living in one of her gaffs round the corner ;)

The EU isn't just a trading block that ensures good equal standards and free trade across countries, sadly, if it was then we'd still be in it. Comparing the 2 is pretty stupid. The EU has a flag, a national anthem, a court, a parliament, and requires free movement of people. That's not a trading deal, it's a country.

Evidence please?

True. What's that got to do with anything?

This is true, but as you know, there is always the possibility of leaving one trade bloc in order to persure the potential with another. I'm pretty sure we've done something like that before.

I think it is. Maybe not by 300+ MPs but by a a significant margin.

The union stuff was in response to the post I was replying too..

Clutching at straws if you think there is now even the tiniest possibility of rejoining the EU.

A Labour win should have been a foregone conclusion and now its not and with Starmer focussing on trans rapists, keeping foreign criminals in the country and encouraging people trafficking he is one bacon sandwich away from defeat..

octopus ? you mean one of these surely - did Boris have a cat in #10 .... & Truss kinda had that maniacal resemblance to Klebb ?.

If China joins them presumably it would have much more of an impact than it currently does to our economy

Yes, we've had incredibly cheap international shipping for years, I think I've got packages from China for about £0.01 postage. Also, one of the partners is Canada, which geographically isn't that far.
govenrment and you by default subsidise developing countries when it comes to shipping, you essentially pay for it from you taxes. It wouldn't be cheap without those which is why from US etc it is expensive.

"Pretty stupid" :D

Still don't understand why 1000's of people are fleeing the EU every year across the channel to seek asylum. What is so bad about the EU for them to need asylum? Why do they want to come to a racist country? Why is the UK government helping to traffic them over? Mind Boggling!!!!

There is another thread that will explain it for you.

I think the trade organisation was setup to counter China's influence in the area, so China joining would defeat the purpose of it.

Being part of this organisation doesn't mean we can't join other trade blocks.

Haha, reading the puff piece from the Telegraph it's pure copium for their readers

No doubt, many will focus narrowly on the static economic modelling regarding the impact of CPTPP accession on the UK’s economy in the short term

Well, it does seem an important part, like you know, the headbangers keep on talking about how much better off we'll be under these new trade deals we can negotiate, since we're no longer being held back by the EU. So lets ignore the inconvenient part that it's going to bring **** all economic benefit.

or the impact of the UK’s accession on its defensive interests

Oh, something else negative or not exactly positive we should ignore?

, but this is to miss the wider point about the geo-political significance of this event.

Oh, right are you trying to say that this is more than "just a free trade deal"?

It has always been the case that trade policy is part of your wider foreign policy, not merely an accretion of narrow commercial interests or whatever businesses tell you they want.

Ahh right, so it's never "just a free trade deal", that's going to come as a shock to some people...

And the best bit is the finishing sentence

This is why UK accession is so important, and we are hopeful that the good news will emerge soon.

So we haven't had any good news yet? Always jam tomorrow!

Who would want a trade deal with countries on the other side of the world, but not one with countries on their doorstep? Oh yes, the brits!
