**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Thanks :)

Just a matter of getting the revision in for now.

PRMC after that... should be interesting. I hear the corporals down there have a nasty habit of rounding everything up to 50.

Im looking at joining the Army, im 22, is that an ok age to join?

I have a pretty good job atm, take home after tax is about £310 per week, and was wondering what's the average pay for someone joining at the bottom?

I would love to get into Engineering, but i have always dreamed of scout sniping, ever since i was a kid ive dreamed of doing it.

Am i being realistic? What sort of person does it take to become one?

Personally I wouldn't join the navy. It was initially my plan before the RAF but I'm glad I didn't go that route. The RAF was best decision I've made but even though I love it, I don't know if I would join right now.

Hit my 3 year point now. The lifestyle is good but makes relationships hard unless they live near by.

What is a scout sniper?

Depends on what you do in the army but you will be on a higher pay band or lower pay band, not loads difference.

Pay at basic is poor but its not bad once you go up the pay levels.

Salary compared to civvy jobs isnt great but then you must consider you pay next to nothing for living costs and you get dental care and medical care.

Here is some info on the pay

Got my interview 2 thursday with the Army. Ran 10:27 a few weeks ago, 11:10 today. Really couldnt be arsed today.. too tired from the baby and other stuff + had my navy buddy here so weve not exactly been sober ;)

One of the recruiters told me that anything below 10:30 at selection for the 1.5mi is fine.. like they wont grade you any better for it (unless paras obv) confirm/deny? I've been aiming for sub 10.. ever since I started running!

It's pretty much a pass/fail thing, I doubt very very much it will affect you at all. The first thing we done at training pretty much was a fitness test to judge your fitness levels. Obviously the fitter you are come training, the easier your life is going to be, my fitness level was shocking and I hated going to PT.

If I had to go back to training now, for that hour and a bit a day my life would be sooooo much easier.

Its just their "run club" they like you to come in on a Monday every now and then to do a run.. long as you're at an ok level they give you your interview 2.. then you goto pre selection then selection. At least thats what I understand anyway heh :)

The run is the same route, outside on the path/road.

I always thought the 1.5mi run at selection was graded on times tbh.. as on the website it says something similar to around 12:15 minimum.. i just figured the quicker you did it the better grade you got, I didnt realise the best mark was only 10:30 or below!

So, did anyone else volunteer to work at the Olympics for three weeks and then get shafted and told with 4 weeks notice that you're now there for 4 months?

Wow, 4 months, that's pretty insane. I've not volunteered for it, as I've got far too much leave to take to factor that extra time on duty in lol.

Just enjoying being back in Germany now, much more acceptable temperatures lol. The heat of Afghan was getting ridiculous, so glad I ended up on a winter tour!

Just a little insane, yes.

It's going to be dog ****, 12 hours a day and 6 hours a week for 4 months :(

I've also got 49 days of leave to use somehow

Sounds ****, few guys here volunteered but they were made aware it was for 4 months so their pretty happy about it.

Makes 0 difference for us RAF guys.

I had a call on my mobile yesterday saying I was needing to get in touch regarding olympic duties. They seemed shocked when I said I left 7 months ago and I'd rather not thanks...... :D

Should have accepted it. Free entry, and they can't AGAI you or anything for not turning up to a duty :p.
