**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Just back from Pre-Selection, pretty easy even for a fatty but coulda done better for my run @ 10:49.

Will find out on Monday if I passed it but I dont think anyone failed.

Not in the Armed Forces, but I'm always interested in what you lads do. Just read Sniper One by Dan Mills when he was a Sergeant out in Al Amarah in Iraq, about his experiences. Really really enjoyed the read, real eye-opener.

Always felt a bit of an Army pull, serving the country and structure and order and all that, but I am firmly of the belief that I wouldn't make it through selection :p I enjoyed Explorer Scouts enough, but its obviously nowhere near the same level as the Army.

Anyone have any experience of what its like being an RAF Medic?

RAF - yes. Medic - no experience.

From what I've seen of the medics they do all seem very highly trained, I'm normally fit and healthy though so don't get to see them all that often :p

I only ever see them answer a phone on reception, so im assuming thats all they do :D

lol yeah i have been looking into it but have been worried that its actually just an admin job but are trained as medics. If im not dealing with people regularly and just sat at a desk yet trained, dont really see the point in applying:o

Sorry lol Its a trade in the Engineers - Command Control and Communication Systems, looks pretty ok :) Too used to dealing with it at the Army things >_<

Depends on your grade they're telling me I need to get an A.. I really dont think I'll get an A, probably a B but I'm gunna try.. just my run isnt the greatest, 10:49 at pre selection, think I have 3 weeks to improve that but wont know until they tell me when selection is!

The earliest vacancy opening for me is in October but theres no actual amount of job places so I'm not entirely sure how long I could be waiting!

I just know I gotta push my running hard and get my weight down some more, the more I lose the less I weigh so hopefully the faster I run.. got about a stone to drop still but I'm under their bmi so.. its ok on that side

Sometimes you can get an A with that sort of run time.

Its not all on your run. Team tasks seem to be important and the final interview.

They dont do phase1 at Bassingbourn now do they?

Yeah just dont wanna throw away points, he said a 10:49 would be about 7ish points.. below 10 would be 15 and then from then on its up to 20 or something like that.

he said that for pre selection he thinks i was a green/amber and only amber for my run

My phase 1 for c3s will be at either bassingbourn or pirbright :) the other two job choices are only pirbright for me tho
