**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Just an update.

Passed Army selection at Lichfield with a high B grade 2 weeks ago to be a driver coms spec.

Ran a 9.32 and scored 38 on my technical test.

Only reason i didn't get an A is they expected me to have led more on the team tasks as im 26 but there was a lad in our team that had done it before so he kinda naturally led. Food was surprisingly decent but really glad it was only 2 days as needed to recover abit after that. Guess i have some more training to do.

Anyway had a phone all last week offering me a job and that i have basic training on the 3rd of Sep at pirbright.

Anyone else going?

So, did anyone else volunteer to work at the Olympics for three weeks and then get shafted and told with 4 weeks notice that you're now there for 4 months?
lol
we were told a few months back the time line for whats happening.
2 weeks leave
3 weeks MST
down for olympics+special olympics
1 weeks leave
back to normal work

all in all about 3 months away including training.
quite looking forward to it actually, any time away from barracks is good with me, was down STANTA for CFX the past week, would quite happily have stayed down there in that CP location for another few weeks if it meant i didnt have to go back to normal work:rolleyes:
it was brilliant, got left alone to do my job, got a nice tan and royals were a pleasure to work with.
could have done without the BatSims waking me up at silly times though...

On my pre selection i ran 11mins dead which put me in the top 10 of the 30 people there. They just want to give your best effort. What job you going for?

Honestly!? I was expecting people to be hitting times theyd hit at selection.

PB for me was 10.27 so far but since then I've bought some running shoes so I hope they help, been using similar shoes to skate shoes. Got told off for them but tbh.. I thought I'd use them to run in to make sure I'd stick to it and then just forgot about them. A nice pair of running shoes feels amazing, so much grip!

I think my selection will be june 14th but I'm not sure (I know a girl whos going through it and done her pre-selection already and has her selection on the 14th)

Going in for C3S (Engineers) so I'll have a TST to do aswell, I really need to revise tbh.

If you joined my unit running 11mins or 10.27 you'd struggle, new recruits are expected to be running 9 minutes or there abouts, if you can only do a 10:30 you will fail a bpfa on a windy day.

When I went to recruit selection I came 3rd in 8:15 and was well beat by the winner (6:37), my god he was fast.

I really think you should aim to do this test with at least a minute to spare, when you're doing it for real the; pressure, weather, bad start, extra fatigue from press/sit ups can really hurt you. If you're only just making it without these factors, you need to train harder!

The BPFA is a funny test, you'd never do it in war but need to pass it in peace time, train for it by running very fast, get your body used to running fast, no long slow plods.

They are US Marine Recon specialist snipers. Many are trained by none other than the Royal Marines.

If Clov!s is thinking along those lines then he is looking at Pathfinders or RM BPT.

They're not that special - well one of them managed to kill a kid on telic 2... so I guess some are 'special' in some other sense of the word...

US Marine infantry battalion's have 'scout snipers' - they're certainly not all engaged in brigade level recce roles.

If the previous poster wants to become a 'sniper' then that role at least is available in any infantry battalion.

I said they were specialist.....not that they were special. There is a distinct difference between a "scout sniper" and an "infantry sniper"......even if a scout sniper fulfils both roles. Also a US scout sniper is not the same role as a US recon sniper either.

I suspect that Clov!s is referring to the latter.
