**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Yeah mate Im at Cosford now..

Its looking like we are sending 600 people from 23rd of this month to 20th of next month. That runs over the complete length of our planned leave.

Course will have to be extended, I shall be putting in a service complaint to ensure I lose no money due to delayed promotion. Lads on my course with holidays booked have all been told by the FltSgt they are pretty much screwed.

It's things like this that make me glad to be out. The government should cover any incurred costs that are a result of them cocking up.

Lets face it if you had just been screwed over and possibly loosing a fortune would you be in the best frame of mind to provide security for the Olympics.

Good luck with that mate, no chance of getting that money back.

Just text one of the boys on there course, away on the 23. Unlucky really.

Can anyone recommend a specific insurance policy that would cover members of the armed forces who have a holiday booked but are called up for deployment at the last minute?

I think most do if you read their T&C's. I went on Moneysupermarket and did a search for the cheapest deal that'd give me the most cover financially for a holiday being cancelled My cover goes up to £3000, cost me around £12 for a single trip policy.

This is the line I checked for in their Exclusions;
22. Operational duties of a member of the Armed Forces other than Claims arising from authorised leave being cancelled due to operational reasons.

So if you do have a holiday booked, and it's already authorised on JPA, you should be able to claim if it has to be cancelled.

I dont know of any courses being told exact details yet. I expect a brief in the next day.

As for money back, an admin cpl said she doesnt see why it wouldnt be a valid complaint.

So the catch is it has to be authorised on JPA? Better wait for that to happen first.... Thanks

Who was that with?

That was with holidayextras.com, bought through MoneySupermarket. Several of the insurers I looked at had the same wording in their policies.

But yeah, as far as I can tell, your leave period needs to be authorised though JPA first if you want to make a claim.

Hoping it doesn't come to that though! The decision is due today from my unit as to who is going. I'm keeping my head down hah.

I heard yet another rumour regarding manning from here and it could potentially turn out excellent news for me, but im not even gonna mention it incase I get let down lol

These posts about the Olympics are doing nothing for the recruitment aspect of this thread that's for sure :p.

People should know when joining the armed forces that this sort of thing comes with the job.

If people are worried about roughing it in London (not even out of the country) for a few months then they're not the right sort of person for the armed forces in my opinion.

Yeah, it's a ****ter but you have to just laugh it off, get on with it and bank in that LSA.

True to some extent. People being made to cancel holidays at their financial loss because the government has failed to manage a simple contract is .... ****.
