**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

I am halfway through my phase 1 TA training, and enjoying most of it, apart from the stress of getting my uniform ready for parade. Not getting the hang of getting my bloody shirt pressed, twice now I've been told that it doesn't look like its been ironed, despite me spending more time than is good for my sanity ironing it.

Unfortunately due to a change in employment circumstances, leaving may well be forced upon me which would be so utterly irritating if it were the case.

Im in for the long haul, no matter how many holes I have to dig or litter sweeps I have to do.

*or at least till I get qualled up

That's what I'm doing, using both my learning credits to get my CCNA & CCNP, do my class 1 trade training which I'll get a BSc out of, then I'll be looking and moving to network engineering & design in civvy street.

Although first, I'm being posted to the welfare centre to be a welfare driver and media representative, god knows why, but it'll keep me away from the winter battle camps and what not hah.

Just worked out that if I save my leave from April, my last day in work would be around the 23rd of Sept next year.
Meaning I'd get 5 months pay for sitting on my ass at home before I get out :)

My cousin was on patrol with the two marines who were killed in an IED explosion. Only a few weeks into a 6 month tour, lost a good friend of his right in front of his own eyes, horrible.

RIP :(

Where are you?

Visited my local careers office today and started the process of my application to the Army after I finish my college course in Public Services (level 3) this year. Got my BARB test next week and after that the fitness/medical and other literacy/numeracy tests are to follow if all goes well. The sergeant assured me if I put 110% into it all I'll pass it with flying colors. Been training myself in the gym to the fitness entry requirements for a few months so hopefully i'll smash it!

Any advice for a potential new recruit by around September next year? Really exciting times ahead and I cant wait to get started.

any one have experience of being an RAF regiment gunner?

IMO, join the army if you want to be in a regiment. Join the RAF as a trade, better civi job options and much better paid.

Loads of people here wanting to leave too, can't say I'll be leaving anytime soon. Living the dream :p

Urgh, completed a PFT today, and on a CFT tomorrow at 8am! It's going to be Baltic! Going to be knackered by tomorrow evening lol.

I didn't even know you could do the application online?! Was it the full application or application for information? I personally did everything in an AFCO as it made life a lot easier as you'll start dealing with just one person who will keep you all updated.
The first test you'll be loaded onto will be your BARB test. You'll get a booklet about this regarding the exam involves, you're usually given this in the AFCO when you've completed your application.
