**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

So close to Christmas leave, 1 week left of my course stuck down in Hampshire.

I'm not sure what I miss more, being home or being at my unit in Germany, anywhere better than here

I can't wait either don't think much work will be getting done, mess function Monday, officers to seniors on Tuesday and RHQ drinks on Thursday and not picked up a single duty during my leave. Big beard here I come.

I'm looking for some inspiration here. I'll admit my mind is fried after a long day so I'm lacking the thought process (yeah I'm stupid).

I'm looking to cheer some of the lads up whilst we are deployed this Christmas and well into the new year. There are a few birthdays whilst here too so I have written to favourite footy teams , the One Direction fan club and Crayola with their sob stories hoping they might send something silly. Any other ideas? The more daft the better really.

Dropped my medical paperwork from my GP into my AFCO today, my recruiter seemed happy with everything so that's a relief. Everything else is up to me now and I'm only going to get out what I put in!

However my local AFCO (stoke) finish for Xmas this friday, so if I don't get a call for pre selection before Friday he said it'll be after the 7th of January now.

Bit of a bummer! But fingers crossed, and atleast it's more time to train and research into jobs :)

I'd say all of them get birthday cards with "Dry your eyes princess, you're on tour!"

Other than that, I have no real suggestions. Last year was the must un-Christmassy Christmas and Birthday ever. I looked after the office while the entire troop went out to the Christmas dinner, then I went with a mate afterwards and got what was left, which wasn't much lol.

Oh aye, the card with a man-up oriented message is a given, but I like to make some effort to break up everyones time. Plus it means we might get free stupid shiz! :p

What cap/branch/trade/hole?

Contact some nuts magazine models or something similar.

I got sent a signed photo of Charlotte Herbert :)

I thought going directly to the NUTS website might be my best bet here...

Paradigm Services regret that access to this web page cannot be permitted under the MoD access policy (see link below).

Love it :D

It's like at the weekend I wanted to put an accumulator on the football on ladbrokes.com BLOCKED! But hey, when I go home I can fill all three slot machines with my op allowance/LSA when I go to lunch if I wanted

Looking into Royal Artillery as a Light Gunner
 run! run like the wind! dont look back!!!
If you value your sanity dont join Arty!:D

On a more serious side, arty is a good laugh, no matter where you go, so long as you get a good bunch of mates, but personally if i were to do it all over again i'd go for a more "Skilled" trade, one with a more real world relevant career path with civilian equivalent.
then again if thats what you got your heart set on dont let my ramblings sway you!

If you want to send me an email, should be very easy to find me on work machines as I'm one of four I'm sure I can send some on your behalf.

Send me a trust for my name if you like.

Haha :)

This is why I'm looking into jobs so thoroughly! Why do you say that if you don't mind me asking, was it because of trouble finding a job in civvy street or are you still serving? Artillery looks amazing though, I definitely want a hands on combat job. Driving some of the armys vehicles is majorly appealing too.

You can get a good trade, but will probably barely use it.

Royal Engineers is the way to go if you want a bit of both, trade and "army" stuff.

Might get to use it in Syria in the near future

Cheers for the advice guys, taking it all onboard.

Just focused on smashing my selection first.

Focus on short term goals first then the big stuff will follow and all that. Marines slogan :p
