**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

You can get a good trade, but will probably barely use it.

Royal Engineers is the way to go if you want a bit of both, trade and "army" stuff.

Might get to use it in Syria in the near future

We would have gone to Syria already if we had to, the West just isn't interested. Iran however. PVR time then!

Thank **** for that! My Sqn function is over. Awesome success, but the amount of stress it caused me was hardly worth it! At least my SJAR should be gleaming next year!

Congrats!

just got woken up by my troopy handing me a cup of gunfire! i love traditiont.

We had a good night last night, but as always it kicks off at the end:mad:
Oh well... on to the next one, Regimental Xmas day, action packed morning, a nice meal and then another epic messy night! i foresee carnage! and at least few black eyes in the aftermath:eek:

Anyone know where I could get my hands on some good webbing?

Seems like we have a few ex next year (back to basic style) and the issued webbing I've got here is crap, obviously you don't have enough pouches and it's like dads army running with it on. Thanks.

Ex half way near sandhurst in the freezing weather, awesomesauce. Was actually barable until yesterday when it hammered it down, luckily that was the last day and we didnt have to tab back to camp.

Wales on Monday for a week of adventure training. Then leave on the 21st, winner!

it may not be the best but you can build a pretty decent set of webbing with "issue" kit, if you are willing to take time to acquire the right pieces and sit and work on it.
I've got a set of "Issue" webbing with 2 double ammo and 5 utility, that i built up tons of space, comfortable and nobody gets on your back for using non issue kit(Cadre courses etc).

however as always there are other options, if i was to spend money on new kit(something i swore to myself i wouldnt do again) i's go for a decent custom molle belt kit, set it up with the pouches you want and decent light weight yoke, very light comfortable and versatile, can be used in conjunction with osprey if required.
personally i'd steer clear of airbourne style webbing, unless you are willing to go and get it tailored, i wasnt a big fan, just didnt sit right with me, also not flexible/versatile enough.
just look at the usual suspects

Went into our mess the other day, Army mess, and it was carnage. The chef chick in there advised us not to go in, in "that" uniform.

Supposedly they weren't allowed desert and the mess hands were cleaning the ceiling all night :p

HAHAHA awesome seems like a standard regi do, our meal ended in an all out food fight, but its expected, its tradition:D

I would get issued and build it up, but it looks like it will be a lengthy process, unless there is somewhere I could buy the bits and build it up. Especially have one of them hippo pads in there, a couple more utility pouches and probably 2 more ammo pouches and something to bind it all together and make some of the pouches waterproof.

I've managed to get hold of a fair bit of issued webbing.

Just need to get it stuck on the belt properly with some sort of padding and for it all to be tied together so it doesn't flap about.

Got about 4 double ammo pouches, about 4 utility pouches. Going to try and water proof some.

Webbing can make or break an ex

Hi fellas,
I am currently studying an Extended Diploma Level 3 in IT at college and I am looking at going into the RAF next year when I finish as an IT Technician.

I have all the relevant grades and so on to qualify but I am just wondering if anyone on here is doing something similar or even the role I am looking at?

Would people recommend a career like this in the Armed Forces or will I be best off looking at Uni or just going into a career if possible.

to try and properly waterproof each pouch will be a nightmare, and i'd be doubtful it would be very successful.

for waterproofing get yourself some waterproof bags, i bought a load of them for when i tryed AACC, they have been invaluable through all the exercises/courses i've done over the years, they might be expensive initial outlay but the should last you years, i spent about £150 alone on these, but thats for every pouch/pocket/daysack/bergen etc.

as for the hip pad, you can pick them up from any kit shop, i'm sure with a little looking around you can find fairly cheap, check ebay for example.
i got a new one for mine for £12 from HM supplies a couple of years back

yeah very simple in concept(read an utter pain in the ****), if they are anything like mine, its a case of build up the belt with the pouches(leave the yoke off for now) then the hip pad had little buckle straps that loop round the gaps in between the pouches to secure it on.

you just need patience.

Best thing to do would be to find one of the more experienced privates or lancejacks ask him to give you some pointers, everyone has there own little tricks when it comes to webbing building.
