**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

I'll give him the simple answer to his question.

Higher Calibre =! Better weapon. AK, whilst higher calibre than SA80, is far less accurate. Combine that with a user that is less well trained in marksmanship then it is clear why our rifle out guns the AK.

Why is the AK so popular though? Because it has been produced in huge numbers, meaning they are abundant, they are cheap to acquire and further more they are very simple, meaning they are unlikely to break and any jams are easily rectified.

I don't understand the reference to binoculars though. What are you suggesting? Strap a pair of binos to an AK?? Confused.

Maybe the old Project I.G.I trick where your weapon reticule stayed aimed at the exact centre of wherever your binoculars were just aiming at. It was as simple as aim with binos, put binos away, get out pistol and shoot. I was handing out all kiiiiinds of 100m+ pistol headshots.

Personally I can't wait for the 'shoot around corners' bit to make its way into ICRT :D

They can give me as much super duper tech as they want, never had to fire in anger and hopefully never will!

This is just my opinion; If I had to shoot at a target on a gun-range, AK series especially ak-47 would be my last choice, (unless we are talking about 100 series)

If I had to go to war I would ONLY pick an AK-47, reason being is that my combat training is near 0, therefore the SA gun would probably stop functioning within very short time due to horrible conditions and my inability to take care of it.

AK on other hand, will fire no matter what I do to it, make a really loud noise and the 7.62 bullet will cut through things like bricks and lightly armored cars.

If I was a SAS member, the only reason i`d pick AK is because it would be easy to find ammo for it, other than that it has no benefits.

Some insane weapons discussion going on in here.

Anybody been on Pitchpole? Flipping trampolines and saving swans; turned into a man with van service towards the end.

I spent 3 days at a service station filling sandbags, quickly ran out of morale after the first day.

Not even haribo could save me.

Spent ten days in Bucks, was told to prep for 3, informed OP could last 28 days. Morale was taken out the back and shot.

No. Thankfully my job has become much more "operationally focused" as of late :p means I dodge the dickings.

Ha, I'm on MST as we speak and still went. I'm sure there were some officers somewhere stood on tables, shouting "My lads will do it! Ooh! Ooh! Look at me!"

Got back from ADSC Pirbright yesterday, it was tough but really good, enjoyed the team tasks and passed with a B grade. Waiting to hear back from CSM, hope it's a good enough grade to get a not-to-distant start date.
