**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

:)

I thought it was common knowledge you get the payrise once you drop out the PVR date :)

It wouldnt be so fair keeping people on that pay as trainees, with the aircraft engineers taking over a year to finish trade training, saying that I dont know of anyone other than logistics and myself from my basic training who are out of trade training and we have our navy birthdays in 2 weeks

Just sent off my application, waiting to here back. This has always been something I have wanted to do.

Just always respected my parents and fiancee's wishes that I don't join. But after recent talks they have decided its my choice and will back me all the way and provide as much support as possible.

M4 is pound for pound one of the besat assault rifle/ carbines out there.

My force was looking for a replacement carbine and all trails and expert opinions deemed the M4 the best of the bunch that was trialled but the powers that be deemd it to ' paramilitary ' for police use and the G36C was chosen.

A tac lad that I know said the M4 was a superb piece of kit. Reliability, parts availability, maintenance ... it had the lot.

I have a question.

I'm still at uni, and will finish in 2011, is there any point in me Applying for the army now or will i need to be finished uni or closer to it before I do?

Pretty much do they expect you to join straight away, if you get accepted ofcourse

You can write on your application (In my case for the RAF, but its the same application form for all the forces) When you are available to join.

I was going to do so with my RAF application, I was going to put I was available to join in July 09 (This is in Nov 08), so I could finish my college course. But the college course fell apart and so I left college, and started basic training in March 09.

Your local AFCO will have a lot more infomation on the subject. But I was going to go through the entire RAF application process whilst I was at college (AST, Interview, Medical, Pysical, PRTC, Final Interview). Then get a start date after July 2009.

Assuming your going commissioned? Which you would be pretty daft not to be!

I would go down now and have a friendly chat with them, get some more information on what you are looking to do etc. Showing interest is always a good thing.
