**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

you do realise its same crap everyday in the forces too? But they teach you howto get on with it, and the people you work with are in the same boat and get you through it.

Passed selection 2 weeks ago and no word for a starting date yet.

I could be waiting til after April... it's going to drag so much.

How long did anyone here wait from selection to getting a date through?

Like I mentioned in the other thread I passed selection on 29th September but I still haven't got a start date. I'm not too bothered about waiting till April as I'm just using the time to really work on my fitness. I applied in January this year so by the time I get to basic I will have been waiting nearly 1.5 years. I was deferred on the medical in March for a heart murmur and giving a high blood pressure reading which took ages to sort out, I had to wait from March to August not knowing if I would be even allowed to go back to selection so I guess waiting for a start date isn't too bad now lol

There is going to be a noticeable difference in the quality of recruits in the next year. Some of the guys I'm with here can't even speak properly (as in, appear to have some sort of mental problem) - and this is a technical trade.

A lot of the trainees here didn't meet the entry requirements in terms of qualifications either and had them waivered, although they had to score a little higher on the AST.

I honestly wonder how some of these people get themselves dressed in the morning, let alone perform convingcingly enough in an interview to pass selection. What happened a year ago was more akin to fish hauling than selection.

It scares me to think that these are the people we expect to defend our country and that I am supposed to trust them with my life.

Completly agree with you and Begbie, The quality of trainees I've seen at Halton and here on my technical training has been unbelieveable.

I honestly don't know how they passed the selection process at the AFCO.

What really annoyed me was when I was doing the application phase, I met a bloke who was applying for the same trade as me. He had loads of qualifications and had been living in Spain for the past few years and seemed a real top bloke. The RAF rejected him cause he has had to many jobs since high school. The Navy has since taken him on after months of interviews and checks.

But there are people here who lack the basic skills required for clean living! Or lack the ability to get through a page of a book before falling asleep or getting distracted and doing something stupid.

I for one, don't think I'll be able to trust them with servicing a plane in the future when we get on a squadron.

[/mini rant]

People who can just live 'clean' REALLY grip my ****, i can understand that a room can get messy sometimes...but dirty? Walked into a room recently that must have had at least 40+ empty beer cans left everywhere, clothes over the ENTIRE floor, it stunk of smoke and general ming!

Just got a call from student loans and apparently I owe them £1000 because they over paid me.

They want this off me asap.

Will this affect my army app as they have some issue with debt before you go in?

Oh, just have about £15000 of student loans to pay back as well?

This hasn't come up at the application stage like, I'm just waiting for a starting date so surely they would have said something before this stage?

I just can't believe that they have overpaid my grants and now just expect £1000 back?

Off topic I know :)

I can't wait to get started, really can't.

Sick of my current job and same crap everyday tbh

I'm told that because there was such a surge in recruitment (I guess this is due to allowing so many numb skulls in) there is a huge back log of new recruits awaiting basic training and then trainees stuck in limbo after their basic training who are awaiting slots on trade training after that. Hope this isn't the case for you but thought it best people be pre-warned.
