**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Hi mr Ghost hows your application going for the army:)

Slow mate, slow. Seriously jerking me about with the application. I've just had to resend off some paperwork about my eyesight, because there was something missing. Only took them about a year to realise this  rather annoying like seen as I'm stuck in a job that I now hate, and desperately want to move out lol.

I have a question or two.

How much can you earn if you take the military route?
How do I earn my way up the ranks ;)

I'm currently going into my second year of Politics and Economics Degree, I'm kinda already kitted-out for a government or business job (if a degree gets me anywhere) Would having that degree enable any interesting career path in the military or is it not useful enough.

I like the idea of large responsibility and control, I'm very political.

See the RAF careers website!...25K-35K in the early years.
I wouldn't bother with the 'ranks'. Provided you pass selection, complete IOT, etc with your degree you should look into Media Op's type jobs (Officer)...not sure on which specific trades/branches can feed into this role...ask at an ACIO.

Hey, ive just finished a BSc degree cant find a job and the RAF officer training is abour 2 miles away! Just wondering what is the actual acception rate of officer applications and what are the intake months etc???

Cheers :D

It takes months, a year is realistic. I'm not sure how often the intakes are, but that will be the last thing on your mind when they're taking weeks to get back to you about anything!

Army with a view to joining the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. I've only been considering it for a couple of weeks though, it'll be interesting getting to have a proper talk with someone about it so I'll have much more of an idea of what's involved.

Well ladies and gents ive just got off the phone to careers office. And ive finally got good news, i can have my interview and BARB test next week. Ive been waiting for about 4 months to get to this part...finally:D

Anyway im unsure what i should wear these are my options:

1. Smart pair of jeans and a smart shirt.
2. White Shirt and black trousers, similiar to school:p

What would you suggest?

I could go down Burtons and pick something up tomorrow.

Not sure why you have to ask really, be as smart as possible. I've worn a suit every time I've been in contact with the AFCO (apart from the aptitude tests, went without the jacket as it was so hot).

There were people there wearing jeans/shirts, it's up to you really but I felt being smarter gave me far greater presence.

:edit: It is the Army though.. maybe jeans will be ok :p ;)

Make the effort.

If you look smart it will be noted for the right reasons.
If you loook like a bag of **** it will be noted for the wrong reasons.

Just do it in 2 batches of 22, shouldn't be hard as the military do the girly ones where you only need to get your arms to 90 degrees rather than chin + chest on the floor.

Girly?! Bloody harder when you're told to hold the position lol. If you drop to the floor on your chest, you're not in controll of it.
