British Grand Prix 2010, Silverstone Circuit - Race 10/19

Planning on going next year so I hate everyone that is heading down this weekend :p lets just hope a British driver wins or is at least on the podium, since I have a feeling that Red Bull will be stronger here.

Great info in the original post AH, can finally see the new layout with ease.

More info on the new layout here with Antony Davidson and Sarah Holt ;) http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sarahholt/2010/07/a_closeup_view_of_the_new_silv.html

Three dry but not particularly sunny days are expected for the British Grand Prix weekend.

Britain is enjoying warm weather at the moment and it is expected to remain that way throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Northamptonshire.

Overcast conditions are likely to produce temperatures in the mid-to-low 20s. Little to no chance of rain is forecast.

However the teams will have to watch out for gusts of wind which can make driving conditions challenging at the fast and exposed Silverstone track.

The gusts of over 30mph expected on Friday and Saturday are not too strong but can be enough to disrupt a car in Silverstone’s many fast corners and force teams to adjust their downforce levels if they’re facing a headwind or tailwind on one of the straights.

From what I remember, developement was halted from 1994 onwards. For me, 1993 had the most advanced cars out there. I absolutely loved active suspension - watching the wheels of a car moving up and down, while the car was jacked up, shows exactly what active suspension was about.

Another great idea was the ability to control the behaviour of the cars, via telemetry. So, in 2010, we have drivers with multiple buttons on their steering wheels, where their engineers tell them to press certain buttons. In the early 90s, the drivers didnt have to do this, as this could be done remotely, from the pits, miles away from the car itself. Had we continued along this line, I'm sure would've reached a situation where the car could be controlled, by a computer, via remote control...obviously, this would be a big no no.

Anyway, on-topic.

Unless there is rain or some crazy incident, its difficult to see how anybody but Vettel or Webber can win this. RedBull have got a super car. And as Vettel now is now getting preferential treatment, he has to fancy his chances to win this one. If it rains, then I think Button/Hamilton are in with a chance. Normally, I would put Button ahead of Hamilton in rain, but Button is not particularly good at this track, so I don't expect much from him here.

I expect Alonso/Ferrari to be strong here, too.

Barring "incidents", the top 5 should consist of the 2 RedBull cars, the 2 McLarens and Alonso. Any one of these could win.
