British Grand Prix 2011, Silverstone Circuit - Race 9/19

Cheers guys, The technical area of F1 is something I don't seem to b-able to keep up with too well.

Assuming we do go back to the Valencia rules for the next GP that should at least put McLaren back in it. Assuming that their performance today was down to the rule change only.

I think that McLaren are already in it.

Button qualified roughly where you would expect him to, ie. in 5th or 6th. Hamilton was the let down. Normally, you would expect to qualify 1-2 places ahead of Button, which would place him roughly on par with what we normally expect of him.

Don't fret. If tomorrow is a dry race, Hamilton will come through the field. If its wet, then Button will do well. As a McLaren fan, there should be something to excite you, whatever the conditions are tomorrow.

I'm not so sure, they were well off the pace in Valencia.

That was all down to track temperature by all accounts.

I;m hoping that Sunama is right. We know Hamilton didn't manage to get a run on new softs in Q3 so his pace probably isn't that bad.

Rules could change back at next race, if all teams agree -

Considering both Brawn and Whiting said that protests were imminent I wonder how likely they are to get unanimous agreement.

In addition, if it DOES go back then are the FIA not conspiring against RBR any more?

Fell asleep with about 6mins left of qually, hah! Awesome result for Paul, I just hope he brings it home inside the top 10! drive safer this weekend Paul pleassssssssse!

Given that the Red Bull is optimised for qualifying with it's more angled body design and consequent higher down force it means they can take advantage of the DRS freedom in qualifying to mitigate their straightline speed deficit. McLaren and other teams have a more balanced car design which is generally better set up for races where DRS has less application.

Does this mean that high speed tracks like Silverstone particulalry emphasise this design bias during qualifying?
