British Grand Prix 2015, Silverstone - Race 9/19

Sainz going very slowly and thumping his steering wheel.

Not a great place to park it. On the outside of a full throttle corner

Virtual Safety Car! :D

They had NO SHOT at a win. What they did by having a two car buffer, is meaning both Williams are ahead of one Mercedes and now it might be to the end.

As such they may have turned 3rd/4th into 2nd/3rd.

Again if Bottas passed the slower Massa who was slower out of all those corners onto the DRS straights, he would have been very vulnerable to Hamilton. Meaning one merc directly behind each WIlliams, Merc undercut one car each at least and it would likely have been Rosberg ahead of one if not both of the Williams.

The difference is that Bottas was so much stronger out of corners than Massa has been, meaning he's a far better rear gunner than Massa is.

Nonsense.

Had Bottas been given the place he could have potentially pulled out a few second lead over Massa. Which would have seen him have a fighting chance of coming out ahead or level with Lewis as the pits. Everyone believes he was being held up by Massa.

Yup, if Hamilton has to change everyone will so no net loss or gain. If the rain doesn't come Hamilton will need to keep his tyres in shape.

It's impossible to know where the rain will hit. If Ham pulled out a 10+ second gap you see one car spin off and Hamilton is past the pit entry while Rosberg and one Williams, maybe both, pit and Hamilton does a lap that is very slow. You can never really tell.

Even a 5 second gap could be the key moment where the decision is made. Of course if he pulled a 20 second gap and ended up getting caught out by rain/pit stop call he'd still have a bigger gap to reduce the effect of it.

Intelligent use of the VSC. No need to cover 90% of the lap, but marshals and equipment on the outside of a corner. Good call.

Except it would have been fun to have a proper SC.

Precisely.... Bottas had both better exit than Massa AND DRS. I fully expected Bottas should he be allowed by to pull out over a second gap, Massa would then not have DRS while Bottas defending DID have DRS. Massa would have been significantly slower than Bottas down every straight and that is what was protecting Bottas. The Merc's close on the Williams through the twisty sections but Bottas got good drive and had a space to use DRS to pull away from the Merc. Without the DRS and with worse exit Massa would have been very vulnerable. Also Hamilton usually left the straight closer to Bottas than Bottas was to Massa.

Once Hamilton passed Massa within a couple of laps then he'd close back on Bottas easily.

Another thing is actually letting a car past safely usually costs you a minimum of 3-4/10ths, sometimes more, because you have to brake earlier or take a bad line in a corner, Hamilton may have gotten him straight away.

Would have loved to have seen Hamilton after bottas. Would have been a great fight. The advantage of track position vs a better car
