Will the protesters be charged? I know there's a law against football pitch trespassing, but not sure if there's one for racing? Or will they be charged with aggravated trespass?

Russell had no control over that as he was spun around by impactng the car in between them.

The car he impacted because he steered into it. First lap racing incident, I expect, but the person who should have avoided it was Russell.

You're obviously watching something different or completely blind.

Whilst I dont blame Russell for the crash, he was moving left to close the gap, just not fast enough. He was spun because he pinched gasly who was going for an over opportunistic pass.

Hopefully taken to the side of the track and given a beating :p

Can you change tyres now?

Bloomin heck, good thing halo was there, he'd be dead otherwide.

The roll hoop is supposed to protrect against this. We've had cars roll over at speed before. Not saying added protection doesn't help though.

Gasly was literally sticking his nose into a gap that was always going to close. Russell couldn't have known Gasly was going to go into a non existent gap, he's not in the helicopter watching.

I’m not so sure - Diniz @ Nurburgring ‘99 where rollbar dug into the ground.
Ok he didn’t skid upside down as far

On Ch4 coverage - what protestors?

Bottas pit radio - Little update from medical centre. So, Zhou is conscious. He is talking. There is no fractures. Considering the circumstances, he is pretty good. Pretty well.

Just been having a look at the FIA rules on stopped races - doesn't appear to be any difference between a Lap 1 incident or another red flag these days.

However Section 57.3 (Suspending a Sprint Session or Race) says:

In all cases the order will be taken at the last point at which it was possible to determine the position of all cars. All such cars will then be permitted to resume the sprint session or the race.

I suspect the almost immediate red flag and not having reached the end of Sector 1 is why the grid has been put back into race start order.

I don't think there's any solid blame for that incident - 3 cars going for it off the line, Russell moving to cover as you'd expect, Gasly going for a gap that vanished quicker than expected, you can see him try to back out of the squeeze but all that happened in what, a second or so?

Racing incident IMO.

Of course Russell knew he was going to do that, that's literally exactly why he's moving left, to try and stop Gasly following Latifi through that gap, because he knows that's exactly where someone is going to try and pass.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, he didn't manage to close the gap before Gasly got there, so we end up with contact.

And Gasly stuck his nose in there whilst the gap closed, unfortuantely he braked too late.
