They only have limited stock on these I believe so quite willing to milk these early adopters who want the best Asus air cooled card. Madness really and I’m an Asus fan but will be staying well clear of this.
Asus tax you are just paying for the name a bit like Apple tax people but Strix models to flex.

more than doubling FPS)
Not really though, as the frame latency doesn't improve with it by nearly as much

What the point of having 100fps displayed if the latency is like 54ms which is the equivalent of 18fps

My TV used to have input lag of 50ms and that was awful, it was unplayable for me

I finally got round to catching up on prices. So it's minimum of £1680 for a 4090FE and for AIB that would be 20% more, at least.

There's literally no reason to buy them unless you're desperate to top a benchmark chart. There's nothing my 6800XT couldn't do that I would want to drop £2k to solve.

It's not even a question of affordability, I mean I genuinely don't understand why anyone would spend that kind of cash on a GPU. Particularly if you already own a current gen card; It's like buying a bottle of flavoured water for £20 when you already have a sink with a tap.

A 4090 gives good fps boost for those who game at 4k with high refresh rate monitors.
It also helps vr gamers like myself i.e. currently with my oc'd 3080ti i get 30-40 juddery fps in msfs.

0.0000001%

Your cohort is a group of 50 vs the other millions of people.
So what if we're in a minority? Does that mean we shouldn't be catered for?
Btw steam data says 2% of gamers are vr gamers, 4k gamers idk but probably more than 2%. Say it's 3%, so 5% in total. That is millions who can gain from a 4090.

Same. Only reason I’m buying a 4090 is because of running MSFS on a super ultra wide screen. If it weren’t for that I wouldn’t bother

I love it when people frame it like this; now that they own the monitor the choice is 4k 120Hz or GTF.

Check my signature, I game at high refresh 4k. When I can't get the FPS then I start to move the slider, and if that doesn't work then I drop the resolution to 1440. If it's a 3rd person game that struggles on PC then I'll play it on PS5.

Whilst I'm traditionally a serial upgrader, I certainly won't be dropping £2k+, there's tons of options to exhaust prior to an extreme purchase like that - you know, like all the things you've been doing since before you read the reviews on the 4090. ;)

7.5billion people on Earth are not all gamers.
who said there are 7.5 billion gamers ? there are 100s of millions of gamers though (like i said).

i don't know the ins and outs of 4k gaming and high refresh rates, i'm a vr gamer.

i've exhausted all options trying to get several vr games to run at an fps rate to stop judder, hence me wanting a 4090 :)

On my 3080Ti, I discovered that not running *any* software that tracks the graphics card fixes the random frame drops issue.

the only software i use to monitor fps is open xr toolkit in msfs. this software does image rescaling and foveated rendering, it helps with fps. i don't use anything else not even things like fpsVR etc.

I don't think there's a right or wrong here, it's probably best described as a majority opinion. VR gaming is pretty niche in itself, and if you think £2k is a worthy outlay then fair play to you.

For me, we're at a ridiculous state with gaming hardware at the moment. There's a reason why I own a 6800XT as opposed to a 6900XT or a 3090 - it's because my value for money upper limit for a GPU is £750. It seems now that there won't be a choice in that price range any more, which essentially means holding onto the card for around 5 years.

Maybe I'm mellowing a bit, but to be honest the state the hardware market is in doesn't actually bother me as I'm quite happy to drop settings, lower resolution or even game on my PS5.

i do understand what you're saying. £2k is a lot of money to me but i do really enjoy vr, that and motorbikes are my only hobbies.
if you're not in the niche's that a 4090 can make a difference to then i don't understand why someone would buy one.
i'd say £2k is my limit, if it got anymore expensive then like you i think i'd go the console route, PS5 will soon have vr.
i hope the 4090s don't sell well so prices are dropped, but i suppose i am part of the problem.
