BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Is there something I need to know about Aquiss, Chris? Openreach put new poles in our street a few months ago, then boxes at the top. I finally received an email today, saying my address would receive FTTP between now and the end of the month. Hopefully that means they'll actually be live soon-ish. :D Has something happened with Aquiss? My perfect ISP doesn't exist (DHCP not PPPoE, ideally a /28 but at least a /29 static IPV4, and v6, no usage limits, good support etc) but they seemed closest.
I'm with Aquiss from recommendations on here. 6 months at half price isn't too bad, and only a 12 month contract with no RPI increase. A positive or negative on how you see it - you use your own router. The support I've received has been top notch when required.

I was previously on 1 Gig with VM but for speed restriction issues when FTTP was first available in my area took the 330/50 package with Aquiss. Latency is night and day (online game mostly), and I just leave my computer running for a bit longer if I'm downloading a large update. I just fill in the time with a coffee or beer :D

Definitely a positive for me! With little exception, ISP supplied guff is far below the gear you'd want to install for yourself.

The entire raison d'être. I'm itching to pull the trigger, they just need to go live now. The email was only sent a few days ago, but given the end of the month is days away I assume it won't take too long.

I have been waiting so long, and now I need to get my backside in gear. I need want to either re-pull all my Ethernet runs and install a network cabinet on the wall, or replace them with fibre and be done with it.

Received another email from OR: "Fibre is coming". Just waiting for a build date.

However, Map Group have been messing about with our telegraph pole on a couple of occations over the past few weeks...

That can't be right. Is she out of contract or bundled with other things, eg TV? A family member is still with BT FTTC Fibre 2 + phone package, and it's just over £40 a month for them.
All she has is a home phone, broadband, and a (terrible) Wi-Fi disc. No TV services as that's all Freeview. She's not the sort of person to ring up and negotiate, and she's been in the house for decades so no doubt it's just been left and to her the price is the price.

Does the BT hub work with Plusnet? Or can the Plusnet hub be changed to have the same SSID/password as the BT hub as I think I'm going look into switching her over.

My YouFibre appointment is tomorrow. I've been wondering how the service will be installed, there are no drop points on the pavement and has led me to believe that it might be via telephone pole instead. I don't have a line to the pole as I asked openreach to remove this years ago, it shouldn't matter right? Can fibre cables be hung on their own?

Mother in laws BT FTTC connection is over £63 a month currently.

It should be illegal.
Aye my Plusnet went out of contract and it jumped up to £51 without any extra charges I can well believe BT would charge more. Its taking advantage of people who don't compare prices and don't switch when out of contract I wonder just how many are in that boat

Moved to Vodafone Gigafast 900,throughput of 940Mb/110Mb during the day but averaging 250Mb/110Mb at nights, so not overlay impressed. Curious as to what's causing it though as FTTP isn't contented as far as I know so wonder what's causing the drop in speeds.

Previously with BT and Sky's similar package and rock sold 900/110 Mb/s 24/7.

There have been reports that Vodafone suffer from congestion in some areas of the country. Good luck speaking with them and trying to get out of the contract. Choose someone like Aquiss next time or if you want a saving then TalkTalk.

few days in so I'll exercise the 14 day cooling off period. I'm quite rural so options at the exchange are limited. I'll go back to BT probably. Vodafone is cheaper than the others but not value for money.

It's really disappointing, nearly half of the minimum guarantee of 445Mb/s. I'm on chat with them right now and they're pleading with me to try and resolve it but I've no confidence in their ability, never had any issue with BT or Sky just moved over for the cheaper price. Lesson learned.

- painfully slow experience, but cancellation underway.

Granted not since having fttp but on fttc Ive been through all the main providers and the only one I ever had an issue with and cancelled in the 14 day cooling off was vodafone. All the others were identical for me(same router/APs etc), but vodafone for some reason was terrible.

When I was with Vodafone FTTP the routing was terrible, they connected me on an Edinburgh gateway, when I’m in Cheshire. Increases the latency quite a bit for no reason when there was a Manchester gateway…
