BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Has anyone got any decent websites where you may be able to find out more detailed plans for FTTP rollout or do we just go by the vague information available?
As far as I'm aware my exchange is FTTH capable but rollout plans have gone from available within 12months to by the end of 2026. BIDB has recently changed to show Openreach FTTP to 'planned' and have noticed over the past month some works being done to sunken pathway boxes etc.

I did find a website that showed FTTP uptake in the area for my exchange which was sitting at 1% or something but can't for the life of me find that website again.
Only the website linked in the post 2 above yours i believe.

No problems here

Can't believe this post is nearly 14 years old and its still the speed I'm getting now :(

Our FTTC manages that on a good day - usually between 30/5 and 36/7... fortunately get around 100 down 20-30 up on EE 4G here so we do have options for latency or bandwidth needs. Gigaclear has given up after spending 10s of thousands because of complications at the last 30m... and the other altnets (who were coming in a different way) have gone quiet again now there is no threat from GC in the area... doesn't look like BT FTTP will be here before 2026 earliest.

Interestingly a similar situation down the road a new entity has popped up "Last Mile Asset Management LTD" not sure what the deal is with that or whether it has any implications for here.

I have asked my ISP already so just waiting on a reply, but I have an old ONT (battery backup style) and a fibre cable that comes direct into the house from openreach (pre external splice point) I assume I won't need a new install to go from 500 > 900 service right?

Doubt it, pretty sure all the original ones will do 900 Mbps.

Managed to get hold of the digital engagement team in the local council. Seems my exchange is in the commercial rollout but Openreach won't give details of when due to it being funded solely by them with no government funding, seems the best I can get date wise is between now and 2027.

City fibre rolled out to the opposite (much smaller) town (our Openreach exchange feeds that town) and right to the outskirts of ours then decided they didn't see continuing to be a viable option and ceased deployment unless they get public investment.

The wait shall continue then.

Mine said 'between now and December 2026' up until a couple of months ago, then changed to 'By December 2024'. Thing is there's been no works planned, no Openreach vans anywhere and no digging up either. Fully expecting that date to slip, probably to Match 2025.

Ooooh, Interesting. I just checked bidb and Openreach have a huge length of cabling planned for 07/01-10/01 not that far from me.

I also did find a document from the local couple although a few years old now stating our town would be the last to receive it. As we know these plans change. BIDB is showing more duct clearing around the area though.

So BT have switched us over to digital voice.

They provided me with an digital voice adapter to plug the phones in too as the router is in the loft but the phone base stations downstairs.

However it works via WPS.

I have to sync the voice adapter to the rout via WPS

However I am concerned that wps is not secure and can be abused.

What do you think? Legitimate issue or nothing to worry about?

I assume by turning on WPS on the router, random unknown devices can sync with the router and get an internet connection...

Can I sync the digital voice adapter via wps and then turn off wps on the router?

It doesn't work via WPS, it just uses that button to do a DECT pairing. It's as secure as any other DECT connected handset, and if you were using an analogue line before it's orders of magnitude more secure as people can't simply tap your phone at the cabinet.

You can turn the Wi-Fi on the Hub off completely if you want, the digital voice adapter will keep working.

Looks like something is moving on the Openreach website for me now.

We're building Ultrafast Full Fibre in this area soon
We're expecting to start or restart building Ultrafast Full Fibre soon and when we do, we'll typically be building as far and fast as we can in the area. The first (or next) homes and businesses should be able to order Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband within 12 months or sooner.

Some people may already be able to order Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband through our smaller build programmes. We recommend using our Fibre Checker and giving us your contact details so we can let you know when we're ready to start building.

For people who want to host Plex etc. on CGNAT, this is one of the most relevant guides I've seen, and is bang up-to-date. If you don't use pfSense then the steps are going to be similar but you'll be terminating the VPN on something else.

Looking to move to FTTP from Virgin.

Any recommendations or deals out there ?

Should I avoid EE ? thinking of taking a SIM with their FTTP offering, looking for minimum 500Mbps package.

Thanks in advance.

Providing you a) dont need to deal with their customer service or support and b) are not an existing BT customer. ;)

I've had zero problems using their CS, it was amazingly easy when I needed to call them to sort out an IPv6 issue. I was an existing BT customer and moved over to EE with zero problems. It was a bit of a pain that I had to phone up to kick off the transfer but it was all easy.

You were lucky there have been loads of problems BT Community forum is full of reports with EE some are even trying to switch back to BT. My issue went on from March till November I was living it for months and BT/EE still couldnt sort it to the point where they have now postponed the migrations indefinitely. I spent hours on the phone to BT & EE being passed from pillar to post. Thankfully I did not migrate and stayed with BT and got a good deal. Soon as thats over I'm switching away from BT/EE.

Things like BT customers who have switched not having any service for weeks, being overcharged when EE Customer Service said it would be cheaper. EE saying you would keep your landline number when you switch which is not true as the BT > EE system for landline migration isnt compatible.
