BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I've just managed to renew my 910mb with Vodafone for £31pm which seems a bargain. It does go up £3 in April and again the April after but it still seems pretty good value!

I’ve got a black WiFi disc that is refusing to do anything. Tried linking to the router via Ethernet and also the WPS button. There is no reset button or anything I can see. Have also done tried power cycles.
Any ideas

I have that disc and I had to set mine up through the BT app from my phone. Pretty simple to do but it made start next to the router and then move the disc to my desired location and check the connection.

yep use the app if you can its much easier. Got 2 black ones I got off Ebay working fine. If not its probably dead ?

FTTP from Openreach has finally been activated in my street.... Currently with Now for broadband standard FTTC 80/20. How is everyone deciding whom to sign with for FTTP?

I am really after a 12 month contract as City Fibre have started work and this is the interim. Looking at 550 products with Fixed IP, have my own router AX86U

People have recommended to me the likes of IDnet and Aquiss, is there any concerns on these being relatively small players or am I overthinking this?

Many thanks

For Aquiss, I consider it a benefit, whenever I've spoken to them they get back to you super quick, and in detail. Their retention of customers speaks for their longevity at the moment.

I've used IDNet for business for about 15 years. They've been absolutely brilliant.
My friend uses them for personal and no hiccups at all.

Just dont go with BT (or EE or Plusnet)

We had City Fibre installed this year on our estate but I've heard bad stories about it. I know its the carrier not the ISP but there have been a lot of problems. I think partly because they were fighting for pavement space with Virgin. Some Virgin users lost their service because City Fibre cut across the Virgin cable trenches.

Why not? Been with Plusnet for a number of years and no issues, currently have an issue with tree branches stopping my FTTP install and Plusnet have kept me well informed along the way including regular calls with updates.

Plusnet are excellent. No complaints here, been with them a decade now through FTTC and now FTTP.

Just because Plusnet is owned by BT and didnt treat my Father-In-Law too well when he was with them. Little boring trivia fact for you Plusnet used to be Force9 and I was the 5th customer to sign upto Force9 when it started. ;)

Load of new metal poles have gone up nearby, not right next to the wooden telegraph poles but not far off. Any idea what they are for? I can't imagine they're too replace the wooden ones otherwise they be right next to them surely.

Is there a way of searching for Altnets to see what the plans are?

Street lamps? :p

https://bidb.uk/ will show you local plans for alt nets where there’s actual work ongoing.
Nothing showing on there. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Turns out it's IX Wireless. Doesn't show anything for them on that link though.
I can't imagine some of the residents are happy with a huge ugly pole right outside there house. Done are in silly positions.

Has anyone got any decent websites where you may be able to find out more detailed plans for FTTP rollout or do we just go by the vague information available?
As far as I'm aware my exchange is FTTH capable but rollout plans have gone from available within 12months to by the end of 2026. BIDB has recently changed to show Openreach FTTP to 'planned' and have noticed over the past month some works being done to sunken pathway boxes etc.

I did find a website that showed FTTP uptake in the area for my exchange which was sitting at 1% or something but can't for the life of me find that website again.
