BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

OK..... im just offering some friendly advice, hence using the term 'mate' as people normally do - no need to take the literal meaning and be pedantic about it. You can take the advice or not thats upto you - you seem to have wound some people up on here with your posts.

And i couldnt care less about what you do. However, i do know that a lawyer would not use a comma instead of an apostrophe!

oh i knew how you meant it sorry for being Pedantic ha! i was just messing with your mind :) And who said i was a lawyer ?? i said the word Law :) in fact i,m in psychology & its sort of my interest to see how people tick ,and how can wrting in a forum have wound people up ? lol Oh this is a real study case of human weakness :) thanks for your advice i always find this site helpful

I accepted defeat with BT billing department and did not bother phoning them again, even though they stole £60 that i will probably never see again.

Recently however the last few weeks I have been experiencing some annoying problems, my ssh connections keep timing out and this is very frustrating. If it continues then the service is pointless and not worth the money. No point phoning them and complaining i would rather drive a drill bit through my forehead than phone BT again.

Groen, Got BT infinity & I am also experiencing similar problem with PayPal, plus my online banking timing out over the last two weeks, mainly late morning & early afternoons.

Still have internet for the moment, should lose it some point this morning :)

Screw Be, either their shockingly awful router, or crap connection has been getting worse for a couple years. Had a good couple years perfect connection, then increasing DNS, connection drops and slowing speeds in peak times and the last month or so the connection can drop out 20 times in an evening easy, probably the router though, new one not long ago from them worked for a bit and seems to be dying.

40mb by late this evening hopefully, just got to talk with the guy when he gets here, really hope he can do an external extension to our computer room upstairs.

Tried enabling keepalives in the ssh client (if you're using something like putty or secureCRT?)

Had BT Infinity for about 7 months now. I am using the Draytek 2750n. So far no real complaints. I find that uploading to youtube gives me a 1.0-1.1mb/s so I dont know whats up with that speedtester result.

The only niggle i have is that my connection reconnects usually every 48 hours at 5-6am. I check and I think it is because my upload snr starts at around 6.8db and then steadily drops to 0, causing a reset. The drop to 0 takes about 48 hours. Don't really want to ring India. Maybe when they uncap to 80/20 it might somehow fix it :). Doesn't really bother me as I am asleep at this time.

I know some people having been having problems with the Draytek 2750n but I think I am on the older chipset maybe so I dont have any problems.

Does anyone know if there is any other decent websites apart from Kitz and Samknows to give you more accurate information on the work being carried out RE FTTC in your area? Kitz and Samknows are only showing as my exchange FTTC work March 2012, doesnt give any accurate info on if this work has actually gone ahead yet, or how far in to it, or even if its being delayed for whatever reason.

Local council website might show something. What does the BT wholesale checker report?

Don't know, havnt checked actually, I will log on to BT Wholesale now using my wholesale work login.

I didnt think it gave info on exchange work though and when work is likely to complete, could be wrong

Awesome, bit of a pain getting the extension done, the guy we had was, while nice quite unknowledgable and took a while to agree that the data extension upstairs would work fine. Speeds seem, well dl'ing now at a sustained 39mbps which is sweet, speed tester comes up a bit slower than that, around 36mbps with 8-9mbps upload iirc. Hard to judge ping at the moment as due to the way its been set out I'm using wireless to connect so pings went up rather than down.

General feel of internet is much snappier than on Be, and downloading a completely legal 4.7gb file is so damn quick its awesome :)

Surprised at how little downtime as well, I figured he'd go the exchange disconnect Be, come around mess around then hook it all up but I guess he does something exchange, comes here, sorted out stuff inside with Bethere working the whole time, end of road played with the box, and boom, 40mb.

Result, we actually had the mac code already without telling Be we were cancelling as for a couple days it said we could get infinity, then it changed its mind. We told Be a bit late that we were cancelling when we finally could order, and also had told them a couple times about failing router/constant disconnects. Today they confirmed cancellation with no cost and they won't bill us the final month due to issues with connection, saved a bit more cash. We hadn't really officially made any complaint about the line so they are essentially taking our word on it, so very nice of them to be so good about it.

Well i had mine installed by a 3rd party contractor from BT.

I was not there at the time and some idiot who shall remain unnamed told him i would be away for a week and not using my BB so its been left unplugged but tested working for the first 7 days.

How does DLM work then? Do i still get the 7 day trial period once i re plug? I know they dont do resets so i hope this dont mess up dlm for me and i need a reset.

And the little modem cable is so flimsy lol.Managed to get me a nice RJ11 shielded cable with gold connectors.
