Over all those using infinity, do you see consistant speeds, all sites are accessable, no dns issues?

Torrenting sounds like a problem really, as it sounds like the only time you can torrent is after 12am... not that I torrent much, but the odd TV program would be nice.

Whats the general consensus, to infinity or not?

So far I've seen very consistent speeds, 37meg every single time I've done a speed test or used newsgroups at any time, including peak times. This may depend on individual exchanges though, so no guarantees there. I've not had any problems loading any websites, and no dns issues (although I use Google DNS).

Only you can decide, I went from a 9meg O2 legacy connection to 37meg BT Infinity so it was a pretty big jump. You already have 18meg Be*, so it's difficult to say if it's worth it, especially if you use torrents a lot.

VDSL2 - yes, BT Infinity - No (IMO)

Any reason why? I wouldn't go with BT for ADSL, but I don't see how anyone currently competes with BT for VDSL2. £25.60 for a service that only throttles P2P at peak times and has possibly unlimited usage (certainly 300gb, depends when in April they lift this limit) seems like a very good deal to me.

All the other ISP options cost a fortune for any decent usage limit and there's very little point having FTTC with a tiny limit.

While BT may "win" on price they certainly fail on customer support.

God help you if anything goes wrong with your Infinity connection and you have to try and explain the problem to "Robert" in Mumbai.

For all the issues people are quoting ill remind you all that if you go for the unlimited package, it is unlimited and cheaper than any other unlimited package, i am a heavy user and yet i know that anythin i download during managed times will kick up to full speed overnight and im not so impatient that im willing to pay double the cost each month

If you want to be completely free of traffic management because you cant just leave a machine running to download your torrents then you are going to pay a premium to get completely unlimited with another provider, i think its still cheaper to buy a usergroups subscription than switch to a completely unmanaged provider

Im not going to try and convince you that BT have somehow become superb at customer service, im sure they havent. The homehub isnt the best bit of kit. My HH2 needs a reset once in a while because every so often none of my wifi devices can connect but i can switch that, when i can be bothered

In games im getting 50-60ms ping times, youtube hd and the like run fine at all times. I never really notice any slow loading of webpages and i cant comment about dns reliability because i run my own dns server so if thats down it'd be my own fault :)

Bit of a horror story from this guy:

The date on that post suggests it was before the 300gb cap was removed, which for clarification it was removed from 01/04/11.

If he was using for 1.5months and blew the 300gb cap (sounds like he did because he mentions it) then during his first month he would have been fine, then for the second month he would have had ALL of his traffic managed down to that of a 2mb/s connection during peak times. Hence his complaining about iplayer and whatnot.

If he started mid month, he might well have blown the 300gb cap in 2 weeks and then had 4 weeks of pain because it totals up and resets at the end of each month

I was down to enjoy one of these limited stints after id passed my cap by 0.5gb last month, then i checked the BT forums and saw the announcement that the cap was gone anyway

In truth for me i think this month i wont hit 300gb, cap or no cap.. when you can download so much because your getting decent speeds you eventually run out of things to download..

You say that like it's a good thing?!?

I took the ping from the game i had open at the time which is wow, on an FPS game with a local server im sure it would be lower.. but i dont have any installed at the moment and really couldnt be bothered for the sake of saying the performance isnt horrible

When i was on O2 the ping time was in the region of 160-200ms for the same game

Does anybody here have BT Infinity and an XBOX 360?

The reason I ask is I need to know before I jump ship from Virgin that the P2P throttling they have does not impact XBOX Live during the throttled periods like Virgins does.

How do you figure out if VM is throttling your XBL?
Whenever I try to download something from XBL, be it DLC or a demo, it's always super slow, so I figured M$ servers are rubbish.

Personally I'm not prepared to pay 2-3 times more a month for possibly better support in the off chance there is a problem with my connection. I've not had to phone my ISP for years. If there is a problem, BT seem to be very helpful on their forums chasing up any Infinity issues.

No figuring out needed, they manage P2P traffic now during peak times for upstream and not just downstream, so it's obvious to see.

Play Black Ops and get host, it's terrible, constant connection interrupted, and lag when people join/leave.

Also anything on the dashboard like gamercards/gamerscore/avatars etc runs slowly.

It's only been like this for me since they did the P2P trial in March, and since rolling out it's been dire.

Has anyone had any disconnects/downtime on Infinity? I got it enabled last week, been getting 37.5Mbps stable at any time of the day... but at 4pm today it disconnected completely for 20-25 minutes. Hope that doesn't happen too often.

No problems here, been connected since the install a week ago.

Also had no problems with traffic shaping, even at peak times (I use newsgroups). If I ever torrent which is rare I connect through a VPN and pull full speed.

Was getting 1Mbps when lucky with O2 for the last year now and finally bit the bullet and phoned IDNet. Told the guy that I was a right bit anyway from the cabinet and was told by BT I'd be touch and go. Anyway he said I should be ok and if there was a problem the engineer would tell me so on arrival. Long story short, the tech comes back from the cabinet and says the machine reading 33Mbps!. Couldn't believe my luck. I'm sitting at around 30Mbps. Yesterday I was hitting Speedtest over and over with a smile on my face all day! Last week it was crawling up.

BT really must be thick - I had requested all the router and gear to be shipped to a different address. I checked the order progress yesterday and it lists the proper address. Tonight I go to the alternate address and find a 'we missed you' card saying the item couldn't be delivered. BT order tracking still states the requested address! Weird.

The modem is prone to overheating and loosing sync. Happened on my install after only 5 days, had an engineer come out to investigate and he mounted the modem on the wall t'other day. Been good again since then.

Does anyone know if there will be other ISP's that will be providing 'Infinity' type broadband on the BT network in the near future or is this all exclusive to BT?
