BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

If I could get a ping of 9ms, I would be very pleased, & upload figure as good as yours.

NathanE: Out of interest how far are you from your exchange?

According to Google Maps, about 1.6 miles. But since all but about 200 meters of that is going at light speed I doubt it matters :p

Tea and biscuits at the ready.

They are actually now coming on the 3rd next week. They bumped me to the 5th after I already booked because the day became full (weird). But I am not in the 5th so I kicked up a bit of a fuss and they moved me a day earlier instead. The HH3 will be sent express now so it comes tomorrow. Although I will throw it away and use my Netgear WNDR4500 after they leave. Apparently though they like to install with the HH3 first to prove it all works.

Mine was installed with my own DIR 655. I guess it's very engineer dependent.

Nath, good results mate. Nice ping, even going through Ilford.

Yeah, I'm not too sure whether the Openreach Engineer actually takes much notice what is being installed. All he is interested in is that the modem itself connects ok.

I too installed with my own router :)

Nath, this is the best I have had for some time, usually around the mid 20ms.

Very Impressed!

I have also been advised that my line is capable of supporting over 100Mb from the BT engineer :D

Excellent! In that case, email the support email address ASAP asking to be put onto the trial. It's only going on for less than 2 weeks, but you can see if you want to keep 80/20 after it goes live (the pricing is still being decided, but it's free for the trial).

He's not going to get on the trial at this stage.

Is this still the case cause my connection is still miles better than ever?

The issue has been resolved now. BT had a core switch go out, and not in a very graceful way apparently.

Something weird has happened on my end too. I've lost a huge chunk of SNR all of a sudden

I saw an openreach guy down my street earlier, I wonder if he knocked some cables or something :( It reduced my upstream/downstream attainable by about 4mbit each way, luckily I had some headroom above my sync rate...

Saw more men in Openreach vans feeding cable into the street on the main road. Much nearer the cabinet this time though.

I swear they are just taunting me now.

Cheers, sorry about you moving in the wrong direction though. My connection (d/load) for long enough has max'd out around 26mb but all day today (and now) has not dropped below 37mb :)

Still baffled why all of a sudden (not for one second complaining) it has taken such a jump.
