BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Anyone know if I should change the connection mode to "Always On" ? This is what the software automatically detected, although I had to supply the username.

If you want an always on connection, then yeah :)

A lot of routers dial on demand feature require you to manually go in to some setting on your router to initiate the authentication process with your ISP's RADIUS account, Always on will tell the router to authenticate automatically after the router has sync'd with the exchange

Thanks. The WNDR4500 is pretty underwhelming. The signal strength isn't any better for me although using a 2x2 antenna receiver is giving a bit of a boost (4MB/s in sabnzbd+ over 2.4ghz, 5ghz range sucks). It seems I'll have to get a 3x3 receiver to actually max out my current connection @40Mbps. The 80Mbps upgrade will be pretty useless for me it seems.

edit:

improved my range on 5ghz network by moving router slightly and now downloading at ~4.5MB/s. Less than the 5MB/s I get when wired, but I guess we'll see what happens with the 80/20 upgrade.

I actually stumbled on this the other day on my DIR-655, I was ready to pack it in because when I get home from work it would take ages to sync. Now it's always on :)

BT is doubling download speeds for Infinity broadband customers from Thursday, ramping up its super-fast fibre rivalry with Virgin Media.

I would love to get a free doubling but i am scared about what a new contract means.

I'm scared of BT's contract's full stop, what would happen if they change the clause of the package? introduce download caps, throttling during points in the day? could I use a get out clause?

Im on the fastest infinity package there is, so I take it I am eligable for this as well?

As for contracts I signed up in april so I guess im 12months in to the 18month contract....

Not really looking to move any time soon, so I dont think I have anything to worry about.

What do we have to do, call them a request the upgrade?

I'm 6 months into an 18 month contract. So far the connection has just worked, so I'll definitely be starting a new contract with them. I just wish I could do this now rather than tomorrow!

Does anybody know if it is possible to get BT to put a cabinet on the list to be upgraded to fibre? My exchange has been enabled since December but my cabinet isn't even on the list as being planned for an upgrade

I was on the phone to BT earlier today getting some extra static IPs for a Business Infinity connection. They offered me the 80/20 upgrade for £5 extra (presumably +Vat).

I will be on the phone 9 o clock in the morning to get my upgrade, don't mind renewing my contract, This infinity service is the best internet I have ever had, so more than happy.
