BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

This is slightly concerning:

My exchange is Sky LLU enabled and I currently happily use O2 LLU. I guess it's because it doesnt recognise the line as it's already on an LLU product.

i was messing about at my mums yesterday and it says that about her phoneline but shes already got sky bb lol

So I'm on a contract which expires in November 2012, if I upgrade to 80mb does the new contract start effective immediately or would it continue after november?

oh dear ive just signed up today is it worth ringing them see if i get the speed boost?
Doesn't that then make you an existing customer, and thus entitled to the boost for free ;)

I'm guessing they'll dump the old one and you'll just be signed up for a futher 18 months

Well it's another 18 months, not a year, but yes.

Wonder if the speed upgrade will be instant or if there'll be a waiting period. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I remember years ago back in 2001 when I regraded from 512k ADSL to 1Mbit. That took a week or two to go through. I imagine things have moved on since then though ;)

Called & confirmed the renewal contract starts from the date you choose to upgrade. One thing that did worry me though is that he said there's no information on their systems as to when the upgrade goes live and he doesn't know why they've posted it on the forums since it's not definite all areas will receive the upgrade tomorrow. I have checked bt speedchecker and it estimates 70mb for me now so I'm guessing my exchange is ready for it tomorrow. Time will tell I guess :)

So I've been on Option 2 for barely a month, so does this effectively mean I just need to get my contract extended by a month? Or does it mean I'll be locked in to 36 months in total?

Just done a checker on Samknows, quite impressed :) I thought they were delaying from March 2012 to June 2012, however, I just checked and my town is now activated for FTTC services.

I would advise all others who may have been delayed to June to re-check, it maybe Green :)

Now to choose a respectable provider who are reliable, have good customer service, do not throttle and have no caps if thats possible :)

Checkers been updated for me, gone from the 40/10 to this...

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 71.4Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.

Which is about what i was/am on during the trial. :)

Hmm, my modem says otherwise.

Your estimated Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband download speed will be 59.1 Meg with an upload speed of 18 Meg. Top speed depends on line and location.

Hi all, i got an email saying my exchange has been upgraded to support 100meg, is that the same thing you are all talking about?

100Mb/s is FTTP. We're talking about the FTTC 80/20 upgrade.

Extended by one month.

You may only order if your cab is live.

Conservative estimate.

I hear that Sky launches their services tomorrow, how long would you leave for research purposes to start looking in to Sky, are they dibbed to be a good service based on the quality their LLU services were?

I have been looking at some sites, and although I am rated to get 59mb down and 18mb up, services are generally selling as up to 40mb down/10mb up

I am guessing the 59mb down and 18mb up will be restricted to what the service provider's product is being restricted as

Guess I will be trying to scout out a provider now, I have checked IDNet, Zen, ADSL24 which all seem a little bit pricey and not enough GB for me. Sky would be the next choice or BT, but I am slightly apprehensive on BT and their 18 month contract and no static IP.

I could get an FTTC circuit through work and create my own RADIUS account, however I highly doubt they would appreciate my bandwidth usage!

I am guessing everyone posting about 40+mb download speeds are based on BT Infinity new promotion for extra speed dated April 12th?
