BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 60.7Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.

Had hoped for better as I'm syncing at 75Mbps, Not sure if i want to upgrade just for 20Mbps. Hmmm, better get the cream out, that bug is going to be biting hard tonight.

BT Wholesale Checker is saying

"Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 64.6Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps."

However, I have been informed from the BT engineer that my line is capable of supporting just over 100Mbs.

Yeah the estimates are pretty conservative, don't pay too much attention to them. It says I'll get 63.7Mbit yet my unlocked Openreach modem's stats clearly report around 80Mbit is the max attainable rate.

My checker still says 32Meg but in fact I hit the 40 Meg ceiling.

Although I have noticed something VERY weird.

Before on the BT speedtester it said my profile was 38.72
Now it says 38.71

This is a 0.01 difference! Surely I can't be syncing at 39998. If I reboot the modem it comes up the same, so the chances of pulling that stunt off twice would be near impossible!

I haven't hacked the modem yet as I wanted to get through a month, in case I needed help from BT with anything, before doing that.

looks like I am definitely leaving BE come this month then :'(

Let me tell you something. Last year I said the same thing but I waited! I regret waiting so much.

Signed up to infinity option 2 two weeks ago. Never looking back. I can't believe how nice customer service has been from BT and Order management.

In one week I have been called around 10 times from BT, problems originating from BE MAC, lost modem, and it all came together on the scheduled day!

Constant sync at 37.4 Down and 8.2 UP - very little if no fluctuation since then.

Sorry! If you snooze you loose! I was with Be for 7 years. No don't think they can offer a competitive Fibre deal (with their unlimited unshaped and unrestricted moto) then I will definitely jump back. Something tells me though that when Be rolls out Fibre (and they will) it will have to be expensive to keep in line with their moto.

So do you have to call them to go through the upgrade or can it be done online. At work and can't check much at the minute.

Wholesale checker says I could get 60Mb down and 20Mb up. It will probably be better than that. Might as well go with the new contract for the increase.

If you’re already a BT Infinity customer, you can switch to the faster products by starting a new contract, at no extra cost.

I said it going to free in another post over a month ago.:o:o

I've no idea where to ask this really, there doesn't seem to be a forum for it but.. if I switch to Sky for my line rental as part of the Fibre offering, will I lose the phone deal I have with a third party telecoms company? I currently have BT line rental but with a third party deal on top (For calls, not line rental).

This is slightly concerning:

Based on the number you have provided we are unable to provide you with Sky Broadband on your current phone line

My exchange is Sky LLU enabled and I currently happily use O2 LLU. I guess it's because it doesnt recognise the line as it's already on an LLU product.

Yes - your phone contract will switch to Sky for line rental and any talk packages.

I would love if, when they do get fibre that they offer their 24mb package on fibre with a higher upload.

That way the price could stay lower whilst being unshaped.

I guess you should ask the third party company or have a check through their T&C's. Is it 18185?

Pretty sure Sky line rental is just still through BT.
