BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

In the broadband packages page on My BT I have:
Up to 76Mb download speedUp to 19Mb upload speed

However the form choked so I wonder if it's already done... is everyone else the same?

Sounds about right with BT :D

Too right does it :p People on the BT Infinity forum have been phoning up and some of the staff have no idea this upgrade is available. Staff have been cancelling, re-ordering home hubs etc etc instead of just upgrading people when they ask lol. Good old India ey.

Just called 150 and got put through to "Darren" who knew all about it :D, 5 min job, talked me through TOC etc..., 24 hr activation.

... I hope I don't get another homehub!

Also he confirmed the website has a bug and is being looked at.

Something else he said which I found strange, I think I've been switched to a 12 month now as oppose to 18 or maybe just for this speed upgrade? .... he kept saying you are agreeing to a 12 month contract , and I kept saying you mean 18....

I got some error on the website about Anytime saver call packages not being available for this upgrade, called up BT and got a nice northern lass who sorted it out within a few minutes, activation will be tomorrow!

Lol, just noticed on BT's page they have already change "Unlimited Usage" to "Unlimited Usage - Exclusions Apply" didnt take long, wonder what changes they will make to this rule during peoples 18 month contracts.

Well i think that most isp,s put a cap on there service after a while ,and with a speed of 40mb upwards why worry ?

The 40mb service already stated that, I think they just forgot to add it in when updating the site, the level of service will remain the same and tbh BT always get the lions share of bandwidth imo.

I don't know what the big fuss is people have with BT. They are the best ISP I have used and I have been through, freeserve, orange, talk talk, BE, o2. BT will not put a usage limit on Infinity option 2 as the reason they have option 2 is for unlimited usage. BT packages are priced on usage and not speed, hence the free upgrade.

I guess its the same as anything, the fuss people have is with their own experiences.

I spent 4 months on BT hardware with unusable broadband and phone, threatened court action, and went back to Virgin who have always provided a good service for me.

FYI, for those looking at go to/upgrading to Sky Unlimited Fibre; it has put back a day. It was 12th (today) but now tomorrow. I can wait another day i suppose..

Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre will be on sale on sky.com/broadband from 13 April

Now that we have started a new contract do with get the first 3 months for £20 like on the website?

I confirmed this, yes, the offer remains on the system as when you signed up. Therefore it will be honored.

Honestly! The best customer service I experience was with BT when I ordered. They called my around 10 times because of problems with BE MAC address. Finally they gave up and put an order in with no MAC. Because of delays they prioritized the order, and having placed the order for the 3rd time engineer came out two days later.

Yet I have seen far more complaints about virgin pings, speeds, dropouts than I have about Infinity.

Only P2P Exclusion at peak times.

Doesnt include SSL (Usenet) then?

The whole point is, within the 18 months I could potentially be with them, whats the chances of them locking down the product in terms of more throttling and capping on download/uploads? if they do, will I be able to get out of my contract, as thats NOT what I will be paying for.

I highly doubt they will induce anymore throttling or usage policies. As you've said you sign the contract on your terms with what they have stated, although in the small print it may say subject to change or something similar. Haven't really checked. Don't use p2p anyway as I use newsgroups. Supernews always full speed for me.
