BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Just upgraded my infinity to 80mb but been told it won't upgrade until the 19th. Hd You tube videos are going to download so fast :-) think I will also have to buy a game of steam or origin just to see how quick I can download 13gbs.

1080p films in under 20 mins.

Only P2P Exclusion at peak times.

You can still download as much as you want without any limitations? Isn't throttling speed a limitation?

I'm surprised people even with BT tbh, but as said i suppose it goes on personal experiences with ISP.
In my experience i've had 3 faulty homehubs, terrible customer service, had to threaten them with legal advice due to sales harassment (BT's TV service thing) and also had a lot of downtime.

Sky have been flawless (except Exchange upgrades), truly unlimited, fast, cheap, great customer service and have had 0 sales calls.

BT can go suck a lemon.

It is yes, but it's not restricting the amount you can download. Just the speed off certain protocols. I get that by restricting the speed they're indirectly restricting the amount you can get too but this P2P restriction was always there anyway. They've just made it more obvious on their site now.

I'll take 40Mbps/10Mbps VDSL vs the 2Mbps ADSL that anyone else could provide anyday of the week;)

No one has answered my question, regarding changes to contract, if they introduce other throttling restrictions to other app's, or caps, what will I be able to do? get out of my contract? as technically, its not what I paid for/am paying for.

Because we don't know that. Ring BT and ask if it bothers you that much.

I think you'll find you can get around 24Mbps on ADSL2+. Although I'd still rather have 80/20 with BT who have been perfect since installation.

Not on a 5KM+ copper line you won't :p, I don't know how much it's improved as of 20 months ago, but i jumped the ADSL ship for VDSL and BT were the first to supply it. Haven't looked back since.

Wishful!

I joined Be and got 13 down 1.2 up at address 1

at address 2 I got 6.5 down 0.8 up, unstable

Glad it's behind me now

You're completely missing the line length aspect that enters the speed equation, especially on ADSL1/2+ products.

The person you replied to most likely has had an ADSL product and due to their line length/quality was only able to obtain ~2mbit. On VDSL2 (FTTC) a good portion of the phone line is removed from the equation, meaning that most users will get something approaching the full speed.

It's live here too, 75 down and 19 up estimated. Hovering over the "place order" button but I'm not sure about putting another 18 months on it. I might potentially be living abroad by then. :D

Had to call to get the upgrade sorted since I had that line rental saver problem whilst trying to do it online. They said it could take up to 3 days but in my account area says activation date Friday 13th so it's tomorrow. The guy ran a test and said I should be expecting 76mb minimum and 18mb upload. Well chuffed can't wait for tomorrow!

technically yes you can, but I don't think it will come to that, BT are meant to be a separate company but lets me honest, they get priority over everything how else do you think they can easly undercut every single isp for FTTC?. if more bandwidth is needed they will add it, if they don't I start to whine at the CEO. :D

..be lucky :)

So has anyone requested the upgrade from BT?

As a former BE There customer, you hear scare stories about BT, really they have been just as good as Be there.

Ok I did have some issue with my modem at the beginning, and could only get in contact with India which was freaking useless, but thanks to Locky emailed an english BT technical support and they sorted it for me as they should have.

The whole BT throttleing thing... well I stopped using BT ages ago... so its a none issue
