BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Grrr, checker still showing 35/5 for me :(

Will this eventually be made live for eneryone? I was of the understanding that all FTTC cabs should be capable of this speed?

Nope, VDSL still lowers in speed the further you are away from the cab. When/If BT introduce vectoring and/or the new 30a profile you may see an increase but it may just be down to the length of you line being too great a distance.

So whats everyone paying for their Broadband?

Like i said, i upgraded my BT Unlimited pack last week which included a calling plan @ £4.99. Add that along with line rental and i was paying £40.

Now paying £30. Granted, this could fluctuate as i make some calls not covered on the anytime call plan (No..Not babestation) :D but i cant see it going up any more than £35.

nice trolls Kobrakai :D

Stop believing dodgy ISP review sites and acknowledge the fact that most BT Infinity users here can not fault their service and there is no other provider out there who can offer the same value for money in this moment in time.

80mb/20mb with truly unlimited usage for the same price just at the expense of another 18 months is something I can live with considering the connection has been second to none bar a few disconnects which have left me without internet for about 5 minutes in the past year.

Hmmm, weird then because I am only about 400m as the crow flies from my cab.

So im looking for new fibre ISP, Sky dont seem to have a lot of info on their package, what exactly is it? Any other ISP's worth looking at?

If you wait until tomorrow (when the Sky package is being released) there should be a lot more info about their offerings.

In regards to other ISPs it really depends on what you want and how much you are willing to pay.

I wouldn't risk going with a provider as soon as it offers a service. I'd wait a couple of weeks/months as there may be some teething problems.

Easy to do with some numbers and also as BT will even charge 17p every time you use 1471 regardless if you hit the 3 to ringback.

I'm honestly not too picky about what they offer, just anything better than my current 1mbps speed due to cabling.
Must be unlimited DL's.
Price is the most important factor, is sky expected to be cheaper after line rental ect?

Sky are only rolling out 38 down, 2 up iirc.

Also, the last time I checked, Sky is the same price is it not?

I don't use torrents anyway, so couldn't care less, BT have been superb since I switch from Virgin, who were terrible.

I will only get 22 down anyway due to distance from cabinet.

Not sure the upload thing is a big deal.

It's quite likely that Sky is suitable for you (assuming no issues become apparent after the product launches). They are supposedly going to be cheaper than BT and with the required unlimited downloads. It's a gamble going with them straight away but if you do it and let us know how it goes it will at least help us make more informed decisions in future :p

Well in your case with Sky being cheaper and you not being able to get full 40mb anyway, you may be best trying Sky out.

How far are you from the cabinet? I'm 500m and I get 38 down, will know tomorrow what it's like with the new speeds.

If you don't care about upload, and you really can't get more than 22 down, then for sure, go with Sky.

But there are many reasons to go with BT.

My service with them has been without fault, and you'll be hard pushed to find bad words about their Infinity product on here.
