BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Sky are only rolling out 38 down, 2 up iirc.

Also, the last time I checked, Sky is the same price is it not?

Where did you read about the speeds? Sky haven't released anything from what i can see..

Sky turns out to be damn cheap if you're looking at complete packages, that's their main advantage. Their disadvantage is it'll be 40mb down max

I upgraded first thing this morning and noted that their estimated speed for me was 58/18. I am hoping that this is relatively conservative. I am currently getting 40/10 and I remember that when I was ordering infinity when it was available in my area their estimation was 32/7 so hopefully this will be the same.

On a side note, once i placed the order i went onto mybt account and checked the tracking and the upgrade showed up to be completed at the latest on Friday 13th at Midnight, so figures crossed. I am also using a Draytek 2750N so hopefully that will work perfectly with the upgrade as well.

How are talktalk as I just had a call for their 70/20 service
£114 upfront (Line rental 12month)
£22.25 6month then 29.50 for remaining.

Seems better than BT's offering

Edit NM according to feedback talk talk are terrible.

Just cancelled my BE broadband and requested my MAC code, I have internet until the 13th of May.

How long does it take to setup BT FTTC with a phoneline already installed as I don't want to miss out on internet but dont want to order too easy :)

What's more hilarious is those who "pay" for a VPN service to get around the QoS. Why not just "pay" for USENET instead? Someone wasn't thinking...

The person I was referring to doesn't pay for the VPN, the only time he "wasn't thinking" was when he signed up for BT.

Yes their call centre is as **** as all the other consumer ISPs. So what?

The ISP I'm with uses the same people to answer the phone as they use to manage the network, which when I call is the level of expertise I'm looking for.

I like that I can call them and ask for interleaving to be turned off on my line to improve my ping, or for my target signal/noise ratio to be changed to fine tune between speed and stability based on my individual line attenuation. Last time I tried this with BT I was transferred between 4 people until I eventually found somebody who knew what I was talking about to tell me they wouldnt do it.

Chances are if you have no idea what I'm talking about then you and BT (or any other mainstream ISP) are going to get along just fine.

Does anyone know if SKY are upgrading cabinets independently of BT?

My own cabinet has been due to be upgraded for the last two years or so. It keeps getting pushed back. (I think because of complaints from the local conservation groups)

Don't need to change noise ratio's on Infinity. Just face it lad, everyone else here with Infinity says its fine. You just carry about your biased fan boy ISP review business whilst we all enjoy 80mb down :)

Be customer by any chance? ;)

I'm not with Be, although I have had good experience with them in the past before they became over subscribed.

I'm not saying who I'm with because I'm not a fanboy and don't consider them any better than many other smaller companies that offer the same level of service. I'm just suggesting people do some research before committing to an 18 month contract with BT as there are much better companies out there, but I will not be posting anymore as I am apparently just going to get flamed.

no sky will not be installing cabs.

Rang up Sky this morning, my exchange (Sidcup) was one of the first to upgrade to FTTC but the Sky lady claimed sky's fibre wasn't available in my area yet even though my exchange has had Sky LLU and FTTC since the beginning. Any ideas?

That'll be because Sky don't offer FTTC products.

Is the renewed contract 18months or 24?

I think the renewed contract is the same length as the previous one. They just reset the start date to the date of the upgrade.

Mine was 18 months, but I started in February this year so it's of no significant difference to me.

Went to cancel BT Infinity Option 2 here, came to the end of 18 months contract.

Price reduced to £17.25 a month for a new 12 month contract on same package.

Should try it guys.

Thats a good result - did they mention anything about 80/20 upgrades/prices

My 12 month contract starts again from tomorrow at the same price and I get 80/20.

At this rate I will never leave BT. Brilliant service for the last 19 months.
