BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Get with the program sister.

I have found the answer, BTO need to do some work to a select few exchanges with FTTC that should be done before June.

But as of this post sky still don't offer FTTC, so thats why you don't have it from sky. It's a pretty simple concept really.

Profile switches happen overnight, usually between 00:00 and 04:00. Needless to say I won't be staying up late to check. I'd rather just wake up tomorrow morning and check.
I know, hence I said I have no idea why I checked.

I'm back home tomorrow lunch time, I'm hoping it kicks in tonight (tomorrow morning).

I really don't see what all the fuss is about with BT. They're fine. They run a more professional NOC than almost any other UK ISP. They have to, they're BT!

Yes their call centre is as **** as all the other consumer ISPs. So what?

BitTorrent is for noobs anyway, so it's their own silly fault. What's more hilarious is those who "pay" for a VPN service to get around the QoS. Why not just "pay" for USENET instead? Someone wasn't thinking...

Well said.

I paid for a premium ISP in 2006/2007 when I was stuck on ADSL. Yes they were great when I had to call them, but BT have been fine so far as well. At that same time, my neighbor was with BT. He actually got better speeds. I then went with Virgin when I moved and the rest is history.

However phone calls have been few and far between. I've only had to call BT once, due to an Openzone issue, which was fixed within a minute.

Where did you read about the speeds? Sky haven't released anything from what i can see..

Sky turns out to be damn cheap if you're looking at complete packages, that's their main advantage. Their disadvantage is it'll be 40mb down max

It's the speeds people on the trial are on, so I presume they are carrying that over to the full release. Tomorrow will be the day to tell though.

Actually they do.

Sky's launch date is today. Their website/fttc portal hasn't been updated yet but customers can, and have, place FTTC orders over the phone.

So people who called up aren't seeing any updates online? (order tracker) nor confirmation email.

my order is tracking online.

Hey! That's mine! :D

Unfortunately the order seems to have knocked out my international phone calls. :(

Just spoke to BT.

They estimate speeds of 79mbps for my line if I upgraded.

However they advised me too wait untill August as will be eligable for loyalty reduction in price.

Internet speeds are more than fine at the moment any way, so I think I can wait.

But mine says:

Up to 19Mb upload speed
Advanced security software
Parental controls
Unlimited WiFi minutes

But I guess this is the same for everyone

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 80Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.

I wonder if they'll bump us up to that faster speed soon as we're on the upper package!

Anyone else checked their speed today now that maybe a few more of you are home? Mine is starting to hit an all time low .... gulp.

Grrr, rang Sky twice and they can't sort me out my Fibre upgrade. Apparently it's online only from tomorrow until the 26th then they can handle it over the phone.
Guess i'll have to wait until the morning :P

Took the plunge and signed up to the new infinity 2, decided against sky for a few reasons.
They estimate 46mb initially but i think it will change.
Engineer booked for 27th, too long a wait if you ask me!!
