BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Upload is a bit slow but otherwise it's normal.

Cheers bud, mine has settled.

+1 Never had to call or email BT since joining. Like I said earlier people just slate them because of their "poor" ADSL days. I think it's worth pointing out that the reason BT may of had the most complaints is because it had the biggest customer base. More customers = more problems. I bet if you had given BE* the same number of customers BT had there would have been just as many bad reviews/complaints.

I remember when even Nildram and Zen had ADSL capacity problems. Nildram's got so bad they moved some people's connections onto NewNet for a few weeks. I was one of them! This was back in the days when a new central pipe took 6-8 months for BT Wholesale to install. Even BT Retail couldn't get around it. Nowadays new central pipes can be lighted up almost overnight providing the ISP has connectivity in a major datacentre (which they all do).

Anyone got any reccomendations for a good shielded RJ11 cable, about 5-10 metres.

Using my very cheap RJ11 cable from a popular auction site, the modem syncs at 69Mbit, with my cheapo 2m cable it syncs at 77Mbit. I'm sure with a proper quality shielded cable i can hit the magical 80Mbit. Ta.

The information for my exchange has been updated on BT Wholesale, it know says:

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 53.3Mbps and upstream line speed of 15.7Mbps.

Does this mean I'll be able to order 80/20 as soon as my exchange is enabled?

Your exchange might already be active and fibre ready, just not your cabinet.

Post the link? And that's for the online portal as has been explained to you.

I'll say it again because you obviously have not understood.

The websites states the 13th, I'm not one to go trawling around pointlessly for obscure information on inferior products :D

The above means that I was unaware of the phone in option being early as it's not necessary for me to research to that depth on an inferior product.

Is there any particular order in which cabinets are usually enabled? My exchange is estimated to be enabled by end of September (but we all know that can change!), but there does seem to be a very long delay in some cases before all cabinets are enabled.

It'd be nice to think that they'd try and first enable cabinets in areas which currently get very low speeds (such as my own, with <1mbit) rather then areas which can get say 10-20mbit, but I'm guessing that isn't the case....

Oooohhh! I may be in luck. My phone number doesn't show anything on these FTTC checker sites but i use the number of the chinese down the road (sprinting distance) and got this:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 79.9Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.

FTTC = Food To The Customer .... that's why

:D

Wow, Rossi~ I just tried a different number too (we have 2 phone lines), and it says about FTTC (number I tried previously only said about ADSL, and second number did last time I checked). So thanks for posting that!

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 42.1Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.5Mbps.

A bit slow compared to some, but it seems pretty conservative estimates much of the time? Still, huge increase over current speeds :D

I don't see how Sky will be able to maintain a no FUP once people start seeding at 20Mbps constantly. With ADSL at least upload speeds were slow.

Grrr, rang Sky twice and they can't sort me out my Fibre upgrade. Apparently it's online only from tomorrow until the 26th then they can handle it over the phone.
Guess i'll have to wait until the morning :P

This is going to be hugely annoying if its the case.

The Sky online checker says my line isn't compatible with Sky broadband - presumably because I have O2 LLU. This therefore means I cannot order online?

Based on the information provided, Sky Broadband is not currently available, so we have been unable to add it to your basket.

So this means I cannot order it until the 26th?!
