BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Is anyone having to reset their router each morning? I'm doing a speedtest each morning and its barely hitting 3-4Mbs. After a reset its back up to the normal 37Mbs?

Thinking of getting old TP-Link TL-WR841N out for a whirl.

I have to reset mine most days if I want to get anywhere near top speed.

Dont know but i have absolutely zero issues with my BE connection...websites load up quick and my download/upload speeds are good ie i get 18mb down and 1mb upload.

But saying that im seriously looking at going fibre but not 110% sure about BT's policy on traffic shaping...thats the only thing thats putting me off. Plus looking at their speed checker, i can get 76/18mb down and upload but id hate to get it then find out im only getting half the speed lol.

Nothing at all like the Blackberry network that went down...that was catastrophic as you couldnt even use any of the internet service ie email, web browsing and BBM. As i said my BE connection is as stable as it ever was.

I have a friend who is on B.T Infinity and he says thet they haven,t throttled his p2p at all as yet and its been 4 weeks ! i think they only reduce the speed if your netwoek is busy or in a highly congested area with loads on the cabinet :) my brother woked for B.T and told me that is the policy of the B.T network its monitored at a HQ and throttled as and when needed :)

Thats the current policy. How long before BT introduce STM though?

Yeah not sure ..But i guess in time every isp will have to monitor there network more :) so i don,t think its just a B.T issue a lot are doing it under handed where as at least B.T are up front with it :)

This is the reason I left BE there.

Seems their issues are never ending.....

A bit like when the Blackberry network went down.

When the BB network went down you couldn't reach anything. That link provided states theres routing problems and why the poster left BE. When BB went down customers moved. Basically I was pointing out customers left because of problems.

I checked my phone line today on the BT site and said I should be able to get around 70/20 which is up from the original 40/10.

Checked my price plan and they have put mine up to the faster speeds but still only getting around 37/8.

I take it BT are working their way around improving every ones connections?

YES YES YES!! After having a crappy 10-12 days it seems my line has been fixed!

Happy days again!

You lucky guy! I re-tested mine tonight and rebooted the home hub and my speeds have gone up a bit.I got the previous 25mb download result off speedtest.net and then quickly ran it a few times and it increased to around 36mb and 9mb upload.

I then went to BBmax and got 38mb down 11mb up and finally the BT speedtester wont work and gave me an error. But the beta flash version was telling me i had speeds ranging from 100mb to 20mb.I could see it changing wildly and sometimes it would report a speed of almost 70mb download and 10mb upload.

Which again i found weird as now my upload has jumped to 15MB on speedtest.net yet my download speed there and on BB max remains sort of stuck at under 30mb.The only place i have to semi confirm its working correctly is the beta +24mb bt speedtester.

I guess tomorrow i will re-run the official speedtest again to see what results it will give.I could see from one test my ip profile was 77.48MB roughly but it kept failing and my throughput was 0kbps and then it was asking me to change my HH login to the speedtester login for the final test which it failed.

Is this normal?

I'd say hard reboot the open reach modem with the router turned off, once the DSL light is flashing back on then turn on the router. I did this and got my speeds up from a capped 30mb to the above.

Just tested again now:

Guys, is there a checker that works with the upto 80mbps estimates if you're not enabled for FTTC yet?

I'm sure I checked it on Talktalk before, but their checker tells me it's not available now I've since moved and want to check the new place.

I have 4 invites for TL, PM me if you want one. Please no one thats going to waste them like my IPT invites.. *cough* Spenty :D
