BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Thanks. Would you be kind enough to tell me where you got that info from please? We are only about 120 metres away straight line from our cabinet.

All the DSLAM's had the profile change applied months ago so there's little, to no chance, that your DSLAM/cabinet was missed out.

Hi guys

Prepared to get flamed but after various googling/trawling of as many pages on this thread as I have time too, I am a little in the dark still.

I already have Infinity 'unlimited' on one of the lines here (Farnham, Surrey), we get about 37.5 down constantly. I have gone to the upgrade link and all I get is "congratulations, you can upgrade to" exactly what we have now. No mention of up to 80meg, just the same 40.

Is there somewhere that you can see the status of the profile upgrades for existing cabinets? Guessing the reply might be the same as 2 posts up.

Sorry and thanks...

Just go to BT website, dont login. Go to BT Infinity as though you are a new customer and do the line check. It will tell you the speed there. For instance if I do it as a new customer I am told I can get 54 meg down.

Or unlock your modem and see what the attainable speeds are.
My attainable speeds are ~69/24
BT quoted (as varkanoid suggests) 60/20
I'm actually getting ~62/16

Ahh bummer. So 40mb down and 6mb up is what I will get next week. Aww I was looking forward to upgrading and getting double upload :(

You're already on 17a, probably too far away from the cab.

Griff, thanks for the input. Kia, I unlocked the Hauwei for the hell of it and these are results below:

# xdslcmd info --show
xdslcmd: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Retrain Reason: 0
Max: Upstream rate = 16536 Kbps, Downstream rate = 63948 Kbps
Path: 0, Upstream rate = 10000 Kbps, Downstream rate = 39998 Kbps

That indicates that I can get the speed upgraded yes? Assuming you say yes, I am going to search this thread for the right BT phone number to call as the website says nothing about the extra speed. Thanks.

Still no rollout plan for my exchange (Wishaw) with over 12k users on it nearby Bothwell accepts orders and it has less than 3k users...wth this sucks grrr BT WHY!?

Just had my Infinity installed.

The engineer said I was getting the full 80/20, his meter also said the max attainable was 96mb! Come on BT just give me the full thing :p

Is it possible to plug the VDSL modem straight into my Netgear router? I don't want to use the HH.

Edit - Sorted, now using my Netgear router.

anyone heard any rumours about when the roll out of this lancashire wide upgrade is going to start ?

its supposed to be complete by 2014 for 97% coverage for fibre. just worrying theres no news out anywhere about it. not even a exchange change to say its in the pipeline :S

@Nick1881, what Netgear model router are you using?

PS can't wait to get home and do some speed tests. Got an email saying mines done. Impressive by BT.

I'll have a go at unlocking the modem at some point.

So far my think broadband quality monitor is showing loads better than VM already.

When i eventually get BT infinity will any applications get slowed down, My plan is to download a whole ton of stuff from steam when the line is upgraded. I've been promised 10 megabytes (not megabits, i know the difference), this is a far sight better than the 200kbps i currently get.
