I tried and 18 month was minimum they would give me. Saying that its not too costly to take it with you, or if cost isnt an issue pay it off anyway..

I'm on unlimited. Downloading linux distros from mirrors and things like updates are hitting 30Mbs+. It just seems to be Usenet.

Yeah I'm really thinking you are on Unlimited 10Mbs package. I just changed mine over 2 days ago because I though I was also on Unlimited. If you are paying $15 a month then have words with Astraweb. If you are paying $10 a month then you are not on Unlimited DSL.

Had my Infinity II (Upto) 80MB connected tonight, went up from the standard 40mb where I was getting 37MB connection, was scheduled to go through on the 8th, Modem dc/rc'ed around midnight, been doing a few BT Speed tests and getting between 40 & 70MB, assume thats while it settles, tested a few nzb's and was getting ~8.9MB/sec, on there, so that'll do me as a free upgrade (Yep, I know it is also a contract renewal, but I have had no reason to want to change anyways, only alternative is Virgin, which isn't available here!)

I joined on jan 8th 2012, i asked in plain english 5 different operators do you throttle is there any d/l FUP, they all said the same NO. Just the bt website there now is exclusions apply under all U/L usage banners :(

Seem to have things a bit more stable at the minute. I had been testing a few new Linux Distros and they were giving me some problems. I can only seem to get the BT Home Hub working with Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm getting full speed with Usenet using this.

The BT router won't pick up a connection on any other Distro for some reason (even Xubuntu 10.04?). My TP-Link router is working on everything I've tested but the speeds are all over the shop which I was blaming on BT earlier which it wasn't now it seems. Sometimes speedtests are normal (37Mbs) other times they can't hit 3-4Mbs with the TP-Link, I'm also stuck at 10Mbs speeds with Usenet using the TP-Link (TL-WR841N)

The TP-Link is pretty much plug and play so I'm not sure whats going on as its fine in Windows 7.

Ordered mine today, BT coming out Friday or Saturday (think I will say Saturday) to do it. £21 per month with unlimited anytime calls :) works out just over £2 more than I'm paying for 9mb now with no calls and they reckon I will get 72.9 down and 20 up so happy days :) (touch wood)

Is the FTTx roll out broadly following the same pattern that BT followed when rolling out ADSL services roughly 10 years ago - as I'm trying to figure out at what point my exchange will be done as it isn't on the list yet.

Don't think so. Mine was upgraded to adsl pretty early on, but am yet to be fibre enabled, and am not on the list. (exchange is enabled, but no cabinet)

My free upgrade is done, but the speed is all over the place, will have to wait for it to stabilize before uploading a pic. Getting about 68mb down at mo, 18 up. They said it will take about 10 days to get to the settling speed.

Sorry I should have been clearer in my original post. I was enquiring whether the exchange roll out largely mirrored the ADSL one from 10 years or so ago - rather than individual cabinets on each exchange.

My local exchange (SSBCL) got ADSL 24/9/03 according to samknows, so was a year behind other local exchanges who are about to be FTTx enabled, so I was kind of hoping that we might be on the next phase that will be announced in June and enabled in the summer of next year.

It's hard to say IMHO. If / when councils get BDUK money, some counties might well see more exchanges upgraded.

It didn't down here in Cornwall, some of the little villages that took ages to get ADSL got FTTC first, the whole county is ment to be done by next year so It's being done differently and much faster than ADSL was.

Is this a decent deal for a new customer btw?

Thanks,
