BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Quick question

The BT Openreach modem is BT property right? Got an openreach guy coming round today to try and get my Internet back online after the lighting fried the modem. (wont get charged?)

Might be other faults on the line but the modem is broke for sure its like its having a rave.

had bt infinity installed on tuesday, and the speeds have been ok so far, bit varied.

But today has been dire and worse than the speeds I had on o2.

I'm still within my rights to cancel, so do I get out while I can?

@Locky - You can try calling BT and say that you're line speeds are varying a lot. Although technically with Infinity there is no 10 day training period, there's no harm in leaving it that long.

I'm getting the Upgradingz Downgradingz servicing providingz response from BT, Ie reading from a script, I know you know everyone knows that this is a case of not enough bandwidth at the BT openreach to BT broadband handover.

That's normal Locky, leave it 10 days then start to worry about it if it's the same.

The throughput on the bt speed checker isn't the most reliable either, try actual downloads and speed test sites. Bear in mind it will be up and down for the first 10 days or so though.

The 10 days has nothing to do with FTTC tbh, This is not a sync issue, Ie connection between me and the cab. its purely throughput which is to do with congestion on the BT network.

You have to give them "reasonable" time to fix the issues, which will certainly include waiting the first 10 days

Thing is Ive been waiting sooo long for a decent connection it's not even funny.

When my time comes, it's a let down yet again. I just don't think BT have enough back-haul to carry FTTC.

I'm sorry, your wrong. Your sync will remain the same and your throughput will vary. There may well be an issue, but for now this is normal.

I can empathise Locky, I live very near you and ADSL is terrible. Infinity seems to have stopped just short of me, the checker says it's not planned for at least 6 months grrr.

Edit: typo

The BT eng and quite a few other people tell me there is no 10 day period for FTTC, on the date of activation it's set to wide open profile and after 24 ours it's locked in, how true this is I don't know.

Why does the throughput vary, and the Ip profile remain the same? It doesn't make any sense?

Been on BT infinity for about a month now, first 2 weeks my download speed was 37-39mbps and they've since dropped to 18-20mbps 100% of the time. Not happy. BT refuse to explain.

SAME! I was on 27mbps for the first 2 weeks and now mine has dropped to 18-20mbps. Please keep us informed if you are able to fix this as I would like to be able to return my connection back to 27mbps too.

Cheers

Funny enough my my ip profile is 38717 and my connection is running in the 18 to 20mb range right now.

Try rebooting the homehub, just the homehub not the modem. I've had this speed drop a couple of times usually fixed by homehub reset.
