Should do if its got a WAN port? If it doesn't you can just connect the PC directly to the modem till new HomeHub comes.

Just got BT Infinity in the new home i moved to and im getting 37Mb Download and 8 Mb Upload !

Loving the upload speed indeed.

I did ditch the BT Home Hub 3 that i was supplied and used my existing Apple Airport Extreme that i was using.

Very fast indeed and i dont think i have much contention as well as it seems no one is on broadband along my road.

Oh i got them to cable the extension kit upstairs as the main PC lives there.

Mount that openreach modem to the wall. they over heat and burn when flat.

Oh dear, ifthats true i going to be introuble.

During the summer months my loft conversion can get absolutly baking!

I dont run my main gaming pc becuase of it.

If those modems overheat..... Im going to be in trouble.

Then again maounting it to a wall is still a flat surface?

should have said mount Vertical. think it's due to the way the vents are.

Hmm.

Mine is sat on top of my Atom PC (ITX chassis) and it's only slightly warm underneath. It's been there since it was installed and is on 24/7.

Seen it mentioned it a few times online.
And the openreach guy said today he been called out a few times to replace the router due to the other guys not mounting them on the wall.

Complete rubbish. I've had my Openreach/Huawei modem sat flat on a table since last summer and it barely even gets warm to the touch.

I've heard of a few needing replacement but not due to heat.

Is the speed estimator on the BT Infinity site quite reliable? Moving into a new place soon and it can get Virgin Media 50mbit, but only 28mbit (estimated) via Infinity.

Still tempted for Infinity, but I'm not sure why. Perhaps its the upload speed, although the 18month contract makes me cringe.

Only going by what I was told and have read.

quick google brings it up also.

My modem was getting extremely hot when it was not mounted. Very hot to touch. So I would belive it

Maybe it's more accurate to say "some" modems get hot and wall mounting "may" help with cooling.

Like I say mines been flat for 9 months and it's hardly even warm. The same with my parents and the same with lots of other users on TBB.

Update..

My friend who lives in Swadlincote also had Infinity installed few days before me, is getting the same poor speed as me, his IP profile is the same as mine etc, so It is defo BT network problem.

Although not on Infinity I know a few people that have had broadband issues recently in Swad. Seems to me to be the aftermath of all the work in the area recently...

What is the IP of your default gateway, you can find the information in the home hub in advance settings then broadband.

My friend has the same gateway as me, so I wonder if you are on a different one.

The cab is only a few hundred meters from me, I'm on cab 21 which serves the new estate on the old Hepworth site off Moira road.

So, I got bored of waiting for Infinity to show up and decided to email BT's CEO directly, for an indication of when it might come to my area (not mentioned on any of the coverage maps)...

Our roll out plans are announced in tranches and we intend to cover at least 2/3 of the UK. If your exchange has not yet been announced, there is nothing more I can tell you at the moment as we will not have made any further decisions at this point. If you enter your name number on BT.com to register interest, you will be informed when we have a reasonably good view of when your line will be enabled and obviously check on line every quarter for the next batch of exchanges we announce.

I am sorry but I cannot advise further.

Ian

Impressed that he replied to my email, but looks like I'll be waiting until at least 2015 :(

Just so you are aware there is a new product launched today called "Fibre Advance Support" or what used to be the Option 3 Plus Fibre mythical product :)

Just ordered it, basically its for people who have a Fibre enabled exchange and FTTC boxes all over the town but can't get the minimum 15Mb required for BT Infinity when they run the line checks.

Just ordered it here, line checks showed Fibre enabled exchange, but not suitable for Infinity due to line speed estimate being 12Mb.

Otherwise setup is the same as Infinity, and prices seem similar.
