BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Just so you are aware there is a new product launched today called "Fibre Advance Support" or what used to be the Option 3 Plus Fibre mythical product :)

Did you order this on BT website? I asked BT live chat person and they had never heard of it.

We are quite far from the exchange but it is FTTC enabled. Must phone them in that case although I'm not expecting we can get anything decent at 2 miles away.

Just ordered it, basically its for people who have a Fibre enabled exchange and FTTC boxes all over the town but can't get the minimum 15Mb required for BT Infinity when they run the line checks.

Just ordered it here, line checks showed Fibre enabled exchange, but not suitable for Infinity due to line speed estimate being 12Mb.

Otherwise setup is the same as Infinity, and prices seem similar.

lol I had to email Ian the CEO to get option 3 plus fiber ^^

I rang them up - the guy mentioned Option 3 but had never heard of the phrase 'Fibre Advance Support'. Apparently the exchange is FTTC enabled but there is no Infinity as yet.

As promised BT sent the equipment to my house.

However.... I have received two boxes.

1. Small Black/blue hub device.
2. Box of what looks like ethernet cables.

No modem. I thought BT infinity included a modem and a hub?

Does the engineer bring it with him?

Just to save you some pain, and to apologise, its a BT Business product and according to the email I got its called "Total Broadband Advance Support"

I had all the equipment sent to me in advance, enginner had nothing with him.

im on bt option 3 with fibre, was 16mb at the start now on 10mb, its gone from fast path to interleaved. Upload has gone from 1020k to 670k, getting peeved with it, all for £25.60 a month., wouldnt mind if they put me on the upto 10mb upload.

Wanted them to reset my profile

BT'S response:

the line profile should get back to normal on its own within 48/72 hours. In regards to interleaving, once your connection stays stable and remains that way, the DLM system will remove this itself, we are unable to remove the interleaving manually on infinity at the minute. If you do not switch your router off anymore or reset it, everything should get back to normal within a few days.

If you have any other questions, please get back in touch.

Mostly true to be honest, although a frustrating system. At least they're better than Virgin DSL, I was actually told by Virgin to keep resetting the modem during the first 10 days so that the line could stabilise. Yeah, that worked out well. :D

In other news, I've ordered an upgrade to the unlimited option. Went over my limit last month, so I figured I might as well. Really need some good 11n adapters for my desktops though, using a DWL-G132 at the moment. :o

So, FTTC installed and working great! :D

First up, heres the results BEFORE the install...

First Speedtest i did..... Though to be fair the pings seems to be more around the 12-16ms mark on the Speedtest website.

Heres the BT Modem after i did a bit of tidying up, its down the side of one of the sofas so you cant see it, though looks like i need to sort out that wall.... :(

He didn't change the master socket faceplate as i have all pre-filtered sockets around the house and he said the ones they fit are the same thing as what i have, though he did say the one i have here is actually better than the ones the fit now.

Welcome to the party. :) It'll be interesting to see what my upload is on Monday when I get my upgrade to Option 2. Estimate is 9.1 and they were fairly accurate with the downlink measurement, so... :)

Thanks, but did you really need to quote the whole of my last post? ;)

Does FTTC has some kind of training period, seems to be a bit of debate around as to whether it does or not....

Did you do the install your self? the wires and the face are not the ones BT openreach would install.

Edit: I see he didn't change the socket,

I have the same faceplate as you a brand new one and I also have an Austin Taylor one too, would it be worth me fitting mine instead?
