BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

A DNS problem wouldn't cause packet loss but mine has been fine for hours now (ignore the massive response spike after midnight, that was a big upload (LOVE 20 meg up!)

It's still not perfect, though I imagine they're looking into it.

Mines been fine, that was yesterdays. (ignore the red line in the early moring that was me messing about with cables.)

Slightly frustrated.

VM Contract is up, for absolutely ages the checker said Sept 30th 2012... local cabs have been swapped out all over the place.... bar our one.

1st October... checker changes to Dec 31st 2012.

Any ideas whats going on? Is it usual to just add on 3 months, but in reality it could be a lot sooner? I called BT on the 28th to check if it would definitely be done by the 30th and he said they would be able to take orders from the Monday... not called back since.

Annoying as the cabs either side of ours have both been replaced and have new stickers. To be fair they were smaller ones, and ours is a bigger double cab with a small cab next to it. Maybe a bit more complex than they had planned?

Draytek 2750n on 1.5.2 RC3 dropped out today and wouldn't reconnect, just moving between Idle-Training-Handshake then a few seconds at Showtime before dropping again.

It was syncing at about 55MBps.

Have moved back to the BT kit. This is syncing at 66MBps and is showing max attainable of 78.5MBps. So there's definitely something wrong with the Draytek.

Anyone else had any issues?

Edit: Here's the HG612 stats (click for larger):

Is the dip in SNR between tones 300-600 normal?

I moved back to the BT Hub and modem combo from the Draytek. With the Draytek i would be disconnecting every 2 days, eventually affecting my profile. The homehub and white modem are rock solid. I know I can get a higher sync now but i think my profile is well and truly stuck cos of the Draytek.

I can still download at 5.6mb/s but when i first got moved over to 80/20 i was able to download at 6.6mb/s.

Not sure about the best way to get an ip profile reset as I have a feeling that dealing with BT India is going to be a nightmare and not sure if the heartache is worth getting the extra 10mbit.

Will probably try to sell the Draytek

Any date which is an end of quarter date is just a holding date to indicate some kind of future availability.

If the cabinets are going down now and work is ongoing to power them it would be advisable to keep checking to see if the date moves to anything other than an end of quarter date.

It could be soon or it could be a while. If your cabinet is not deemed commercially viable it wont be enabled like the hordes of cabinets currently left behind in areas which have already been 'enabled'.

Anyway of finding out proposed date of the new cabinet being installed/ready? :( main exchange is ready (Crowborough) but can't place order for it where we live so I guess we can when 'P16' goes live but no date?

I remember. I've submitted a ticket via their forum, maybe someone will give me some feedback. I'm not going to waste my time calling India.

Kind of sucks that a lot of people are in the same position as myself, luckily I'm at University for the next 9 months or so and we're getting BT Infinity installed here tomorrow, but when I go home next May/June, I'm going have to suffer with crappy 3MB sky, unless by some sort of miracle they have enabled the exchange and will be taking orders. Schedule says: 31st Dec 2012, but you know what BT are like with their push back dates.

I do actually have a question and wondering if anyone could answer it, here's what it is.

My BT Infinity engineer is suppose to be coming tomorrow, anytime from 8am - 1pm, now, I'm curious, I read up and apparently the installation takes roughly about 1-3 hours, so would that mean he would come no later 10? if I've got the 8-1 appointment or what? as I've got Uni @ 2pm and apparently a resident has to be present during the installation period and what not, so I'm just wondering what times they arrive, I've read threads some say he comes really early at around 8-9, but then others say they have much later appointments and what not, so I'm just curious.

More like 30 minutes if he only has to change the faceplate.

Well at the moment, we're on BT but this internet is a shared connection with the butchers next door, the landlord has some sort of agreement with them, i'm not sure about the full details.

I think this house has a BT traditional phone line connection, but i'm not sure about anything else.

Last year one of the house mates had a phone line extension into his bedroom to which he had a connected talk-talk line and we were getting 15-18mb as this house is pretty close to the exchange, we're getting:

ping > bbc.co.uk = 17-23ms.
ping > google.co.uk = 29-33ms.

I hope it's 30 minutes though.
