BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Nah it's not cable theft Bob, that's another problem.

They've not publicly admitted to this one yet, not on their service pages at any rate. Fast moving thread on BT's forums, and lots of apologetic mods and customers saying the call centre staff are telling them "it's being worked on".

However, no cause being given.

Might mail The Register, see if they want the story. :D

Just adding my 2 cents, its slow here too...

cmon BT fix this shizzle!!! Least I am not alone with this heh

They really need to change above.net as their hosting company. Always had a bad reputation but obviously must be cheap so BT can maximize profits.

Is this the same issue plaguing some sky fibre users also?

due to have my BT fibre installed this thursday - will be keeping an eye on this issue!!

Worth me having a whinge at them? Business is meant to have better traffic management and preferential fault handing...

I just put myself through to India. Such a waste of 10 minutes and then he cut me off when I started to get difficult.

Been really bad the last two nights, but tonight is terrible here.
Given up trying to get on certain sites, some don't load, others so slow.

All of a sudden my mail client cannot get connection to the BT server to retrieve my emails. The bt desktop help thingy thinks my password is unrecognized or missing. I enter it and I get the same error message..

Something suitably vague has appeared on the Service Status site...

Maintenance Work On The Broadband Network

We are currently improving the broadband network, and this may cause you to experience a temporary loss of service.

If you are having problems connecting we apologise, please switch off your equipment wait 3 minutes before switching your router on. Restart your computer and try to reconnect, if you have already tried this and are still having problems.

Residential customers can call 0800 111 4567 and Business customers can call 0845 600 7020.

Read: Updating many many many routing tables? :) Taken a traceroute tonight before bed, be interested to see how it reads tomorrow morning if this is a fix.

Mine's also crawling, definitely a latency issue rather than a speed one.

Some websites are fine for me (BBC News) but these forums and a number of my other websites have slowed to a crawl.

How has this got anything to do with a fibre firm in America being acquired?

If you do a trace route to some of your sites, and indeed look at any of the traces that people have posted here, you will see the point where the packet loss occurs is at above.net routers.

You mean because I said this?

Incidentally, I wonder if an Above.Net employee is disgruntled at Zayo for buying them out? Didn't the same complete a couple of days ago? Grounds for routing traffic through a port with a known flapping link? ;)

Just a liberal sprinkling of sarcasm there, but in the absence of any answer from BT I'm willing to make up a cover story.

Who knows what it is, perhaps the deal went through a couple of days ago and the legal owner of the company changed. Then a third party supplier who only dealt with Above.Net refused to service their routers because they were now called Zayo and it's all gone to hell as a result. The reason it's taking so long to fix is because the guy who works in Zayo's legal department and the girl who works in procurement are trapped in a lift with no mobile reception so they can't sort the support contract out?

Your guess is as good as mine. :D

Yeah it's much better, I think the traffic is taking a different route now.

Much longer, but it completes. About another 6 hops I think.

The 3 hops after BT's UK Core were starring out last traceroute I did.
