BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

November 13th Install date!!!

going from 1.0Mb/s download to 76Mb/s (ish)

"Yes we can confirm that your broadband will be approximately 75x quicker" :D

Its not all bad, they are enabling exchange lines, just slower than cabinets.

As it stands EO lines cant have FTTC due to some kind of regulation NOT allowing VDSL to be used inside an exchange. Its not yet 100% clear what BT intend to do, or indeed when they are going to do it!

This is Ofcom's fault. they really need to be dismantled, they are about as much use a chocolate teapot.

They're trialing VDSL2 for EO lines in Cornwall.

Openreach preparing to launch 220 Mbps FTTP variant in 2013

The communication providers who are the customers of BT Wholesale and Openreach have been briefed to expect a new 220 Mbps download speed FTTP product to launch in the first half of 2013. This looks likely to launch at around the same as the fibre on demand product and will give three main speed tiers 110, 220 and 330 Mbps.

Assuming that trials all run to plan, those consumers who find getting time off work to be at home for the FTTC install, stand to gain from the launch of a "wires only" which will avoid the need for an engineer visit to the home.

They've already launched a 160mb option on BT Retail website, shame I can't get FTTP though as i'd jump all over that.

Spoke to them today, 160mb is in beta in most areas, you will still be able to get it if you are FTTC. so thats good news. But not everyone will be able to get it they say.

What? It's a live FTTP product, only available to those in FTTP areas. Anyone served by an FTTC cab will be able to get fibre on demand next year.

Really, Who did you contact for this info? Wouldn't mind contacting them myself!

That's what I thought also.

Got a reply back and our cab is due to be commissioned April/June 2013. At least there is something to look forward to.

my Attainable rate has gone from 118m to 87 in under 4 months
only a matter of time now before it goes below my 80meg sync ;/

will soon be on the case if it goes below 80meg

Has there been any realistic hints at upload speed improvements beyond 20mb in the near future? We get FTTC enabled in December and i had been considering moving from virgin but with being on 120/12 now i'm not sure the hassle would be worth it for 20mb up.

No. I don't think we're likely to see this happen unless a new player hits the scene at the current lot probably don't want it eating into their leased line business.

also does the DLM set and increase the max attainable rate like can it cap it lower to what it can really do
As i remember when i had profile issues and was syncing at 60meg max rate was 95meg
Got a profile reset line is back to 80meg sync max rate 87

Slowly...

How are people going about getting an ip profile reset. I want to have one as I am being heavily interleaved. Mainly due to me using a Draytek 2750n for months and putting up with it disconnected and reconnecting every 2 days.

Switched back to the BT modem and hub and its rock solid stable but my ip profile is well and truly buggered.

I just dread talking to India, can anyone who has successfully got a profile reset tell me what they did exactly.

Thanks
