BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

P2P upload is often throttled to 1Mb/s, as you've discovered. You'll need to use some sort of proxy/VPN if you want to avoid the shaping.
Dang, this is the first time I've seen it in the 2 months I've been with them too.
The biggest annoyance is that it doesn't go back to normal after peak times...

My area got pushed back to march as well :/

Probably not even worth switching since I'd only get 25mb down and 5mb up. Has anyone seen speeds that low on infinity before?

Looks like my exchange is now equipped for Infinity, but my cab doesn't look as though it's being planned in for Infinity upgrade:(, am I reading this correctly?

The cab data on there isn't very upto date - still shows "Not part of a phase" on mine (and always has) and I'm connected on Infinity. Try the BT site checker and see if its available yet. Quite a few places where phase 1 is done will be enabled in the early part of next year.

Thanks, already checked BT site using postcode checker and it's still showing Infinity as unavailable. Not seen any work being carried out on or around my local cab either. I'm out in the sticks so maybe there's not enough potential uptake for BT to consider it worthwhile upgrading us. I'll make some enquiries with BT. Cheers.

Maybe the cab is right next to the exchange or maybe the estimate is broken.

http://windows.mouselike.org/be/?DoAction=Checker will tell you the line length.

Doesn't say, just gives me errors. I'll try again later I guess.

My exchange has gone from "Future Exchange" to "Coming Soon" on the BT Infinity site - hopefully won't be too much longer (not seen any new cabs popping up yet)

Our private village wide fibre is good (went from 1Mbps ADSL to 30Mbps solid) but way over subscribed these days

@smit101

Try emailing [email protected]. I emailed them - my cabinet had a holding date of December 31st 2012, now March 31st 2013 and is also "Not part of a phase" - and they told me that my cabinet is planned for enablement by the end of May 2013.

Might be worth a try. :)

@H2F_Scott

You're probably sitting on a really good quality line. I'm about 960M from the exchange (as the car drives), and I'll get ~7Mbit, typically. Try putting your post code into Google Maps, along with the address or post code of your exchange, or just the road that it's on, and use "Get Directions" to see what the distance is - the phone lines will likely follow the roads.

Yeah looks like the wifi has gone down on my router. Hardwired from Mac to router its working fine :(:mad:

Well I was kinda hoping that my exchange would be ready for fibre shortly after the end of this year, but reading through recent posts doesnt look likely for another few months or so :o:(

Yay still on a whopping 2mb :(
