Quick question for those of you with FTTC 80/20.

BT seems from what I can gather to use home networks to offer wifi access to other BT customers, I have several round me (only residential area), I just need to put my username and password in to access them, BT FON I think they are called.

If I'm right with that, is it an option that is switched on automatically and if so can I switch it off?

I'm not on the home hub, I'm using an Asus RT-N66U without any of the BT software installed.

I'm just wondering as my speed this after is around 10mbps lower than usual (15mbps down instead of 25mbps) so I was wondering if anyone else could be connected to it or whether it's just busy at the moment.

Cheers. :)

Isn't BT FON only on the Hub? I don't think it will be Asus.

That said you can switch it off on the hub as by default it's "on".

Not a clue in all honesty! It would make sense that it's that way but I don't know.

As a curiosity has anyone had anyone logging onto their connection using that? Can you see when someone logs onto it?

I'd be quite interested in doing some speed tests between the available BTFON networks in the area, not sure how much the drop in wireless signal would affect the results though.

Hi all it took 14 days from Power to the Cabnet to become order available
Here comes 80/20 cant wait!

That's good to know! I hope that isn't the quickest though, that'd be upsetting, lol - although thinking about it I'd be happy to wait a month after my cabinet is powered up.

Question: which ISP are you going with?

I have spoken to Sky and they will only provide 40/9
BT quote me 76/19 from what i can tell this is the best package atm!

I spoke to sky and they cant offer me more than 40/9

Thx for the advise on the plusnet it looks like thats what i will be moving to.
Great deal and a lot cheaper than BT!

If i have paid advance for my BT bills will they just credit me back? iam well out of contract!

@Joop

Depends on what you want to do, and the terms of the BT contract. Assuming you wish to take a PlusNet line as well as their broadband, then yes BT should credit you back since you would be leaving them.

However, there is the option of taking only broadband from PlusNet.

Works out cheaper to move all to plusnet than just getting fibre, also line rental is cheaper anyway! Been with BT 30 Years and they haven't done anything for us
