BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

BT aren't a charity, they are a business and their primary objective is to make a profit - not give everybody super fast broadband. They upgrade cabinets that are commercially viable but there must be a reason why your cabinet is not viable - perhaps there are too few premises connected to it so takeup will be too low for them to generate a return on their investment, or perhaps getting power to it would cost too much?

There is a larger amount of properties connected to this cab then the surrounding upgraded cabs......................................................

All willing people, we don't expect flipping charity we expect good service in the centre of a big city like everyone else except we are stuck on this crap because they cant pull there finger out and ever get things done. Ive been with BT for ten years its always been the same crap.

The cab was suppose to be done ages ago.

The worst thing is they cant even provide a proper service with what they already have. If I had a normal none fiber connection I would not be mad but they cant even do that right.

Even my postcode has stopped saying FTTC on the checker now, not just the address. Emailed NGA inquiries last week though and got a reply this morning, they've said that i'll get it early to mid august barring any complications so fingers crossed.

Same here and I'm still waiting for a reply from NGA.

The postcode checker has never reported FTTC availability.

how are you guys getting infinity 2 for so cheap?

i'm looking at it as new custom and it's 26 a month plus 15 pounds line rental for the 76down/19up

Paying 12 months line rental for £10 a month (roughly) and I'm guessing excluding the line rental in the price as they probably already have it or something?

@thread

This might be a difficult question to answer, but I'll ask it anyway. How responsive is BT's DSL checker in terms of how quickly does it update after a FTTC cabinet goes live? 24 hours? A week? A fortnight?

Could anybody advise me on what roughly I might get from this?

Hmmmm .... Interesting, looking at Openreach's postcode checker the exchange my parents must be on has gone from no plans to under evaluation as part of a government scheme. They get pretty reasonable ADSL at the moment but some extra speed would be nice (when I'm visiting).

midnight, the day it goes live. The holding date will change to the live date a week to a few days in advance.

Looked on http://roadworks.org/ and it is showing as my cab finally getting a power connection. What i would like to know is how soon could it be before i can actually place an order for fibre?

Try e-mailing the above address.

Cabs round here went in around the beginning of December, and they've recently started accepting orders (despite the checker saying End of 2013 until they started).

Cheers. :D

@NUTTER123

That's about 800 metres from the cabinet, so with BT's estimates being fairly conservative, you might get 50-55Mb/s. Look here for a bit more info regarding VDSL2 performance over distance.
