Should I resync the router or the hub?

Just been connected. Opted for option 2 36 down and 5 up. Pretty miffed tbh as I am getting option 1 speeds and my upload is way down on the quoted 19 figure maximum. I understand I will not get the max speed but it's still pretty far off. (Not that I am complaining as I was on 6mb/1mb before) It's more the fact I am paying extra for a faster speed that doesn't exist.

I remember when I had ADSL installed they had me on the wrong modulation and was only getting 400k's upload. After getting in touch with bt care online they managed to change my modulation which gave 1mb upload. Is there anything similar that can happen with fibre?

Also are there any decent routers that people have with custom firmware. My trusty old Netgear DG834GT with DGTeam firmware has been awesome being able to see and tweak SNR was great on the ADSL giving me a good boost for my distance.

In terms of VDSL modems that can compete with the DG834 for ability to make the best of a bad line your looking at spending a fairly hefty chunk of money currently for them (£200-300+). In terms of just routers and still using the BT Infinity VDSL modem I've found the Asus N66U pretty decent with lots of custom firmwares available etc. but that won't make any difference to your line speed.

I'm binning the home hub and replacing it with a net gear. Port forwarding is really badly unreliable on the hub as well as the drops on wireless.

Well this is the second night running I've had downtime. About an hour last night and hour and a half just now. I had 3 solid blue lights at all times however I could not access the web over multiple devices or ping websites. Tried resetting the homehub 20mins in without any change. I've now grabbed the original homehub3 which does the exact same thing. Left it for 20mins again with no change so reset it again, after another 15mins or so I know have a connection again.

I had a dialtone throughout the downtime. Didnt reset the modem although had a mind block against testing for a connection directly through the modem. Checked the exchange status supposedly fine.

Ip profile over the last couple weeks has lowered to 20down from a stable 40 or so I had when I first connected the business hub a couple months back (downtime started to occur not long a go possible around the time of the lowered speed. Its still occurred other times during the day but not regularly and usually doesnt even require resetting anything as it sorts itself out after a couple minutes). Oh and the bt speed just now will start but then fail with an error occuring, however speedtest.net is picking up 20mb down again.

Any ideas anyone, or any further tests or anything before I put myself through the hatred of BT customer supports script monkeys?

ive been having terrible wireless dropouts on my HH

im going to replace it with something different, without breaking the bank, whats the best router to get? i guess around the £30-£40 would be sufficient.

Had a reply from NGA, our cabinet shoul be switched on in august, unfortunately i now know where the exact cabinet is and its about 800/900 meters away so im not expecting super great speeds :(

So Open reach said that my cabinet is not included in any roll out plans.... despite being a HUGE number of peoepl connected to it i mean HUGE including all the local apartment complex's more then other cabinets in the local area.

The guy also then goes on about bloody government funding I have also checked that and they also dont have us listed for that either.......

Why the f shud I have to put up with this in the centre of a city.

Because BT is not a charity and they are run as a for-profit business? They have evidently done a case study and have found it cost prohibitive for the time being, or less profitable than other locations.

LOL? They cant even give the service they currently give at reasonable level.

They may not be a charity but they bloody well should provide good service for customers which they definately do not. And as they own all the exchanges and the other providers have not run any fibre yet I am stuck.

Also they did not even give that as a response despite asking so it would seem they have not even done so.

Why defend them? 80% of the time they dont provide a good service and just because you have your infinity or decent line I should have to listen to you all high and mighty saying there not a charity?

If they cant run a decent service on my exchange then they should give it up to someone who can compete better.

The exchange will be open - so nothing to stop another operator getting involved.
However I expect they too have found it cost-prohibitive.
