BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

So what happens about Vectoring then? Are the HH5's compatible with that as they are going to be standard BT equipment across the range of fibre products but this may have big implications for vectoring on FTTC. Very interesting and another thing can the open zone be turned off, i think this is for their gain rather than the customers.

Had FTTP installed this morning but apparently there has been issues and I have no connection. Engineer told me it should be sorted by end of play Today.....The PON light just keeps flashing so if it's the same in the morning I'm gonna have to waste my time calling them to sort it. I was on Sky for years with no issues but had to move as BT offered fibre as Sky could not and the 250kbs download speed was killing me, but at least it worked. Majorly cheesed off at the moment.

This got sorted Today. Apparently they patched it incorrectly during the install. Loving the speed as it literally takes seconds to download 1 gig for example.

I had Hyperoptic FTTH installed today.

They currently only serve London blocks of flats. Offers 20/1mb, 100/100mb or 1gb/1gb. I got 100mb.

The upload seems a little low, not sure if that's a given, or the speedtest sites are slow.. but the download and ping seems good!

I'd be querying the upload speed as its meant to be 100mb symmetrical.

Can colour me jealous especially considering the prices are cheaper than Virgin who only give you 12mb upload lol.

BT Openreach has visited my property today to turn it all on :) I had to head off to work and leave the wife at home whilst he finished the installation, but so far it all seems to work ok!

Two weeks without Internet access at home has been painful!

You were quite right it seems! After some testing on Hyperoptics own speedtester app....
Using the GbE1 port I got 96/24mb.
Using the LAN1 port I got 94/85mb.

Why using the 'slower' port meant I got faster upload.. I'll never know.. And using speedtest.net I seem to get even better speeds (for some odd reason).

Can't complain!

I want!

Wouldn't mind the latency :S happy enough with my speeds tbh rarely do anything where 80/20 feels slow. (Although just changing ISP should halve my ping).

Very likely it's a firmware issue on their router. One that they haven't tested for in the field.

 Just release it to anyone willing to pay FFS. I was hoping this would be ready to order before Christmas 2013.

Somehow their logic involves only rolling it out for businesses because they don't think customers can afford it. Would it hurt to give an option?!

/rant

You'll be able to get it from BT Infinity Business in due course.

@thread

Dunno if this is relevant but I'll ask it here. Two streets away from me there are a number of manhole covers which look exactly like BT manhole covers, apart from having "BSkyB" written on them.

Since Sky do satellite TV, and their broadband uses Openreach's infrastructure, what's under the covers?
