BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Im having problems with Battlefield Bad Company 2 still.

Sometimes it finds servers other times it says it fails to connect.

I suspect it my BT equipemnt thats at fault.

Im looking in to forwarding ports.

But I wanted to make them as tight as possible, I only need to specify these:

18390 TCP Outgoing
18395 TCP Outgoing
18395 UDP Outgoing
13505 TCP Outgoing
80 TCP Outgoing

But on the hub, it looks like when you specify the port, you not specifying which way, I think its both outgoing and incoming.

Its fine if it works I suppose, but is this a security risk?

I do have software firewalls on all the machines too.

Also as a side not, BT throttling software must be crap.

My speeds downloading from ATI driversite are max. from Nvidia they are current 12Kb!

Iv seen the same shizzle from the Adobe website too.

They should sort this out for god sake!

Not even port forwarding splved my problem :(

Disabling the routers firewall altogether hasnt worked either.

If BT are blocking me playing BFBC2 thats totally unacceptable right?

Im going to call these bum bandits tomorrow and complain!

As it is, no point me getting BF3, cant play it.

BT says NO!

@Locky: I actually really like it, but i have always liked Netgear routers. Had a DG534GT, with DGTeam FW before this.

I did also by the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH, which is good too, (Can run DD-WRT) but the netgear won in the end so i sent the Buffalo back. :)

Ope: Its more likely the HH tbh. ;)

I'm fan of the netgears, had them all with the dgteam.

I have tried connecting my modem directly into my pc still not working on BC2

Iv tried everything in the home hub.

Port forwarding, disable the firewall, diabling upnp a combination of these, nothing worked.

This issue has opnly started happening in the last week. It stopped working for 2 days, came back out of now where, and now its stopped again.

I meant DG834GT BTW, but i'm sure you realised that. :)

So its still the same with the modem direct into the PC? :(

Thats not good......

Locky, Im going to call BT and ask to speak to the technical department.

If you do the same, then our voice gets bigger.

Im sure we are not the only ones with these issue.

It makes sense that it is BT ****ing around with their throttling....

NOTHING has changed on my system and one day it works the next it doesnt.

Even in the same gaming session, it can go from working to not working.

I will do the same, and get my friend to get on the blower,

but lets be honest here, we are going to get the run around by our Indian overlords.

If you ask to speak to the technical department, not sales etc... then you can ask someone who is technical, if BT are blocking or traffic shapping anything that could be cuasing issues with online gaming.

Also I have a few other things I want to complain about.

I'v seen speeds of 12kb download from Adobe website and Nvidia driver site.

A few weeks ago I tried to update flash which was a 1.5Mb file, it was downloading at under 1Kb..... was going to take over 1.30 hours!

WTF!

This is BT's throttling ****ing around!

This is really ****ing me off so far.

BT are interfering with online gaming?

Its currently 1.10am Im trying to get a torrent, before going to bed, having started it at 12.30am to try to avoid the throttling and from what I can see, the throttling is still there.

I'v seen random ridiculous speeds from Nvidia and Adobe websites.... wtf are they doing!

Seems the only thing that benefits form the infinity speeds is http traffic, everything else is screwed.

Not sure why you're experiencing that opethdisciple, I've been getting totally the opposite, sometimes even in peak I'm unthrottled, never experienced BT shaping outside of peak, My games run perfectly (Only configuration I've done oh the HH is port forwarding my BT), BF:BC2 and TF2 run fine for me. And i wouldn't its any kind of preferential treatment based on usage because this house usually pushes over 300GB/month
