BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

It's now been just over a month and our connection is rock solid at 78/19 Mbps. Could do with a bit more speed now. :D

Sounds par for the course for BT TBH. Regarding the Champions League, they don't have it until the 2015/16 season, a year and a half away and even their own CEO has said they will be charging extra for it over and above the BT Sport 'free' offering. They're also going to have to do something about the channels they have. Either develop a 'red button' feature like Sky have on Sky Sports 4 or launch at least 3 or 4 extra channels. Even with three extra channels there are more than 3 British teams that usually get into the Champions League and what if you want to watch Real vs. Juventus or Barca vs. Dortmund instead of Arsenal Vs Locomotiv Plovdiv? BT will need to really do the Champions League justice in order to charge extra.

Fair point.

Not to mention BT Sport has horrible commentators too; they'll need to brush up on that by the time champions league has come around.

Just had BT Infinity 2 installed. Quick and painless! about 65 down / 18 up at the moment.

I'm trying to decide whether to just use the HH5, or revert to my previous Asus RT-N66U for wireless.

The HH5 has AC wireless, but I don't have any matching devices yet, and the Asus is likely to be more reliable. Any thoughts?

I see it the other way around.

Sky need to justify their constant cycle of price rises which in my mind they can't do currently, 10% on my package this year was really a joke and then I get a letter telling me line rental is going up.

For £36.75 p/m I get 76mb unlimited fibre, line rental, free BT sport and BT Wi-fi. With Sky for £34.50 p/m (soon to increase) I had 40mb Fibre, line rental and Sky Wi-fi which is utter garbage.

I found one usable point anywhere near where I go in the last 2 years yet I have found 9 BT spots in less than a week.

I will cancel Sky Sports at the end of this season though and I've also dumped Sky movies in favour of Netflix earlier this and haven't regretted that either.

My exchange has been accepting orders for over a year now, but there is no sign of our local cabinet being upgraded to FTTC :( Any way to give them a kick up the arse? 2Mbps is not cutting it. Contact someone? Set the old cabinet on fire?

write to your MP and encourage your neighbours to do the same.

Never even thought of that, thanks :)

Before encouraging you neighbours to pester your MP, who probably has more pressing concerns, have you actually emailed NGA enquiries and asked them why your PCP isn't live yet?

A lot of people seem to take things way too personally like Openreach have some kind of ulterior motive. Do you not think if they could get cabs up and running asap, and therefore making profit along the way they'd do so? Probably a good reason why that particular cab isn't accepting orders yet.

sorry I assumed that part had been done. I thought that Bennie-Mac's cabinet might not be part of a phase. Much like my new cab which I'll be movinf to in January. Cue violin noises.

Had a reply back, looks like i'll be in with a bit of a wait:

Dear *******,

Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband, you are connected to Belper exchange cabinet **/***** *. We are encountering problems providing the main fibre cable from the exchange to your cabinet. This is due to blocked underground ductwork which we are having to replace. This work is scheduled to start tonight, (we have been asked to do this work overnight to prevent problems with the local traffic).

Unfortunately, I cannot give you a precise date for when your cabinet is due to go live, however, it is hoped that it will go live before March ’14.

If you have any further questions, please ensure you have read the FAQ's on our website, http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/faq/ . If your question is answered within the FAQ section, we will not respond to your e-mail.

Regards

Tony Franklin

Actually surprised I even got a response lol.

**Response from OR**

Actually surprised I even got a response lol.

I tried that nga address thing and it took 2 weeks to get an answer back and it was a stock message about difficulty siting the DSLAM cabinet, blah blah, local council, blah blah and rolling the cab off the upgrade list.

However the DSLAM cab is already sited and has been for a little while.

At the bottom of the email there was a poor english sentence which sort of said there was a power problem and that it would hopefully be sorted soon.

It is really annoying you just can't speak with people. I hate the way BTOR hide away from the public and don't seem to be accountable to anyone.

Had a couple of responses from that NGA address citing different problems too, none of which should have resulted in my entire street being dug up by Openreach for the past week and scheduled to last for the next 2. No idea what on earth they are doing but it's certainly not the minor problems i was cited for the delays before.
