So I checked the roll out page and to my absolute delight it says accepting orders. Went on BT and it also says available :).

Quick question though. At the moment I have an extension cable taking the phone line into the dinging room where my PC is (a temporary measure that ended up being permanent). Should I get a phone line put into the dining room or will the extension cord be alright? I presume getting a direct line in the dining room would be preferable?

Who do i talk to asking whether these FTTC speeds will increase with time? Because atm there's almost no point swapping to a fiber contract as there's no speed increase.

I was going to go with Zen, but honestly there's no point unless in a few months they sort out whatever problem is up with my cabinet.

Is there any way to find out what is going on with an exchange upgrade?

My parents village has been partially upgraded, but in no logical order it seems.
The new green cabinets appeared about 8 weeks ago and now some of my parents friends in their village can upgrade but others, including my parents, cannot.

The BT Infinity checker and Samknows both say no, Samknows does say the exchange has partial completion but how can I find out when the exchange will be fully upgraded.

Also, what is the chance that they will be unable to access the faster service once the upgrade is complete?

Alright guys i'm planning on ringing TalkTalk when I get home from work today. Anyone got any tips or pointers about discussing FTTC in my area?

To summarize my previous posts, fiber is available up and down the road from me but not where I actually live. There's a lot of residential properties and it seems bizzare we've not had a cabinet yet. I asked the council about this last week and they said they'd ring me back but they didn't. I've asked BT about this and they said it's up to the council. Now i've been told to ask my ISP.

Thanks.

What is it that you expect them to say? They resell over the same infrastructure that everyone else does. They cant do anything. If your cabinet is not FTTC enabled then you cannot order FTTC, its as simple as that

In terms of future likely availability, information is hard to come by in a lot of areas.

Oxfordshire for example has a terrible website run by the council, which is rather out of date and therefore useless. Other councils run similar sites. The BTW FTTC availability checker also has a small amount of limited information occasionally.

I have found the most useful way to track it is via roadworks.org. From there you can see upcoming public works.

i have noticed one issue with roadworks.org im guessing they get there info from councils. hence all the works thats been going on near me arnt listed as my local council never seems to get back to anyone with foi requests.

Oh right, i can only speak for Oxfordshire but it seems 100% reliable around where i have used it. Pretty useful for tracking the Oxfordshire BDUK progress.

I am unsure as to the data source

We are 5.3km/3.3miles by road from the exchange and would sync at 4-5mbit on ADSL Max which from my understanding is very good for that distance (55+db attenutation) and much higher than the BT wholesale checker. So I assumed we had a long but very good quality line.

About a week ago our SNR for ADSL Max got wrecked and knocked about 1mbit off our speeds. This could just be the weather but is also suspiciously close to when the power was installed for the new FTTC cabinet.

We are 1.45km/0.9miles by road from the cabinet and have just had BT Infinity installed with the following stats. We are the first on the cabinet.

Code:
6. Data rate:	1217 / 15856
7. Maximum data rate:	1225 / 15096
8. Noise margin: 6.2 / 6.3
9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 31.1
10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 25.4

These are basically exactly the low end of the clean prediction from BT wholesale but I was expecting more considering how well ADSL Max performed on the line. Most places seem to indicate that 1.5km from the cabinet should also get about 4mbit upload.

The BT/OR installation guy was done before I had time to get dressed and talk to him or see what his meter said. However as he was leaving he seemed pretty insistent that speeds would increase over the 10 days stabilisation period. But my understanding is that usually speeds drop during the stabilisation period?

If our speeds drop below 15mbit (and they almost have) will BT hold themselves to the 15mbit minimum for BT Infinity or to the 8.1mbit minimum on the wholesale checker?

like i said im only guessing as theres nothing listed for road works in my councils area at all which is odd as one town centres having major works all year long. hence im guessing its a foi request thing.

Need some friendly advice please.
I'm on BT Infinity 2 and I was using my own Billion 7800N router with the Open Reach box.
My Billion 7800N has finally died and I'm back to using Home Hub 4 but I hate only having one GigaPort on the Home Hub 4.
I know I can get the Home Hub 5 but I was wondering if there is a better all in one solution that I should consider?
Are you guys using different routers/box solutions?
